Thank everyone for the complements. I am very happy with the way that DD40 is turning out.

My references for the DD40 consist of much research on the internet and books that I bought back in the early 1980's plus numerous trips to the Portola Rail Museum because they have one of these babies. (and it's only a 4 1/2 hour drive from my house) For some of my other projects I'll include Model Railroader Magazine, if I have a copy with an article on it, books with any info on the unit I happen to be working on and if I can find a museum with whatever I am working on, a personal visit to get detail pics and if possible measurements of the stuff that most people don't take pictures of. It also helps having a good eye for sizes and detail.

I'm not going to say what the poly count is right now because I'm not done. There is much mesh detail that will end up as texture detail before I'm done not to mention what will be lost on the first and second LOD levels. On the loco itself I'm about 95% done with mesh, mapping and texturing. The trucks are 100% done on the mesh except for the sanders and 60% on the mapping. I haven't done anything on the texturing except made a single color image for it. After that all I have left is the custom cab which I haven't started yet.
