You may be right about the 'brightness' of the roof but I think much of the present 'apparent' luminosity is the result of the fact that I have the "Multiplier" setting of the light source parameters set to 1.5, deliberately so that the render you see shows the effect of the brick work more clearly than it would be otherwise (1.0 is the default setting for the "Multiplier" under normal circumstances). This would cause the roof (with its angled 'planes') to 'reflect' more light than the walls...
...here's an image of the asset taken directly from the 3ds Max standard screen output, without any manipulation whatsoever - as I see it, the relative 'brightness' of the roof, here, is quite acceptable...
...now, "ice", I can only presume, because of some small differences I observe between your 'version' of this signalbox and mine, that you have (ever so quickly), whipped up yours based on mine, which I find quite amazing...
@Jerker
Looks now a little dark.
Maybe they should give something back but rather more light.
Or render RTT.
At my signal box Rebuild ...
Did it just for fun this afternoon designed to render its image.
Is not a 100 percent exact copy of their signal box, but I had no degree and only 45 degrees render your image and also it only took 1.5 hours.
1660 polys.
However, not optimized, so I delete my hidden later in the game not visible surfaces.
I attacked the brightness of both the roof (made the texture darker) and the bricks (made them lighter), to obtain the following result...
...which, has reproduced the bricks much lighter than they are in reality, although I could easily live with this. I also took your lead and reduced the amount of the the reflection on the 'ground plane' for a slightly better effect...
...now, for my own future reference, in a previous post, you use the terms "...RTT..." and "...LAB..." but I am not familiar with these acronyms nor can I work out their meaning for myself (although I have an 'inkling' that "RTT" may be Render To Texture). Would you be so kind as to elaborate?...
I must say, that signalbox is turning out very nice Jerker
Something a little different from me. Something that I've been working on since December for a little side project. No, it's not meant for Trainz And it is meant to look like that, although the end product should look 100* better (and no where near as big ).
@ Jerker
Now looks good.
You have now a good asset and I have two more on my buddy's black list.:hehe:
Hehe
With RTT RenderToTexture can be achieved with light and shadow in a very good model volume effects.
In Trainz have to go a little detour, which is connected with slight loss of texture.
However, one can render the limit with some good experience.
In Railworks material the RTT is much easier to implement materials technology.
Here are two pics as in "RW" looks like, with a few tricks to reach almost the same result with light and shadow in Trainz.
The Windows have not transparent do ..
...I suppose I should probably get around to exporting mine (if for no other reason than to see how it looks) but I want to wait until all the work on the interior is finished...
