GMax and 3DSMax (And any other modeling program) screenies/renders

@Enginetension...

I really don't mean to cause offence here, but I find it incredibly difficult to believe you've only been doing 3D modelling for 2 months...

Cheers

Chris

I think if you just learn and learn by taking little tutorials and big tutorials
you will all of a sudden go wow I can do that now I can make what I want to!

Im doing this with blender and it's working so in 2 months from now I will see what I have learned and post a render:o.

…You just have to put the effort in and you can do it…

Thanks:p

Learning how to use the software competently, and then learning the finer points, as you have done, can take years. I'm struggling to work out how you've managed to learn how to use the software, aswell as effectively create such masterpieces in such a short space of time.
I'm not questioning you, I'm just curious, and I'm in awe of your work. Maybe you could enlighten me?

Cheers

Chris

I think it rather depends how much time you have on your hands - either real dedication, or a professional 3DS course, combined with a fair bit of native talent will get these kind of results in 2 months. A good set of plans also makes things a lot easier. Nice work enginetension!

Great models everyone!;)

I think Im starting to get a real hang of 3dsmax.:)

It's the start of an - AN class
And yes you might ask why it has a bit down the bottem not shown on an normal- An class and the little step letter at the back the reason is,
the blueprints I used Had them on there and I forgot not to draw those parts so I have to fix them up later.;)

This is a mere opinion, but I hope people can understand.

I see in this thread many people encouraging and damn-near worshiping the old veterans who constantly produce amazing work. It's always lovely to see their stuff, and always good to encourage them, of course.

Perhaps though it would be more helpful to give comments and criticism to the people who have less experience who perhaps don't produce such amazing models consistently? They're the people who we really need to encourage in our community.

Instead of saying 'wow, amazing work *so and so*, you always make such great models', perhaps we could give more tips to people who aren't at such a level?

I agree, I think this thread could also be used by the more experienced people to offer suggestions to others, to help them improve their modelling.

I know we have tutorials, but just a little bit of " you know there's a way to make this or that look better" and tell them how to go about it.

In my limited experience, I've always found texturing really difficult. Maybe the odd tip on how to "bake" textures or bump mapping.

I can tell you the less experienced people want to be able to model like pros, and when we see awesome models being displayed in this thread, we want to be able to model like that too.

Nice object there...
And what exactly does your signature mean?

Cheers,
Cameron

My sig is probably a bit uneducated and I might change it but...

You know who Bogans are right? (I don’t know if you have these in the U.S)
Lets take a metro who abuses there mum and dad takes drugs and binge drinks now nearly all of these kids have a myspace not just them also about
99.98% of the kids at my school have a myspace who also drink and smoke
and they think there really cool by doing this (image problem) That’s how they get around and they make little gangs were they bash kids up and stuff (yes I know really Intelligent a kid got charged at my school for it) and all they care about is how cool they look and they set up a myspace so people who
also drink and smoke and bash people, up can look at them and say see this kid he's such a gangster we should like be friends with this guy and make a gang or join he's smoking group up on the hill and we will, get more respect and people will think were very cool and stuff yea.
(So basically that’s an image problem)
and these kids it just erhh I wish they would all just leave and go to a really sad place where kids are starving to death and realize who they are and what there doing.
So yea that’s what my sigs about.
So maybe I will change it to –myspace is full of people with image problems-
Or like another Sig of seen it said something like –if the myspace servers shut down 95.00% of the teenage population would go crazy(Or die)-

Anyway Great model Iceman!:p
Thank you very much

Cheers,

A model me and a friend are working on. Since the picture, I have changed the slips into drydocks, I added a few more, and added some gantry cranes into the slips behind the viewpoint. I will post more when it becomes available, its going to be a fun and exciting project

Nice model.
I think the lighting needs tweaking though.

You could do with adding some indirect illumination via GI, upping the number of photons, and possibly lowering the photon decay slightly.
The bounce off the walls would illuminate the shadows in real life.

Smiley.
