GMax and 3DSMax (And any other modeling program) screenies/renders

GREAT NEWS EVERYONE! I finally got the main rods working! These are the Wip shots of the AT&SF 3751 Class 4-8-4s I've been working on, please note that the textures are only fill in as place holders for mapping. Plus the detail parts are not mine, I just wanted to see what it would look like if it had some details on it. The Trailing Truck isn't mine, Pilot truck is mine, but not the textures. I've been spending the past two months on this project and I think the tender is coming along better than the engine. I'm doing all four versions including the 3752 with Franklin Rottery Cam Poppet Valves, once I learn how to do it all...lol.
Thanks,
Logan Thurman

I have a feeling that these "temporary" details and textures taken directly from my payware items are never going to be replaced with your own. Don't think i'm not paying attention to what you're doing here.

Take care folks!

That coupler looks amazing dude. Nice work

Well to be fair going by logybears track record he never will actually finish it so I don't think you have too much to worry about.

They will be replaced, I'm using them as a fill in to see what it would look like if it was textured. I'm not going to be using them in a few weeks due to I'd not want to steal these. I've already started working on getting new accurate textures based on the original engine that I've got pictures of. I don't want to offend you steve. That's why they aren't being used as the final, because I made that mistake once and I wont be doing that again.

Thanks,
Logan Thurman

Logan,

I hate to break it to you. But there are a couple rather major inaccuracies with your model. One which being that your drivers are completely wrong. 3751 had wheels that looked closer to the drivers on the FEF. It did not have spoked wheels. Also, even if you were doing the 3751 before it was upgraded. Those side rods are incorrect for both the unupgraded and the upgraded versions. Second. The two domes that you have towards the front of the locomotive should actually be a single dome. But it is your model, and you can do what you want with it. But still, With these inaccuracies, why were you having a cow over a couple tiny details on my FEFs? Actually technically one as the second detail you were having a cow over was something you assumed that I did. When in reality that detail is correctly modeled.

Also, why would it even be necessary to use textures from another locomotive "just to see what it would look like?" What is the issue with simply creating a basic single color texture that gives you the general idea? Maybe its just me, but using textures from another locomotive would make me rather confused and I would not get a very good idea of how the locomotive is supposed to look. Also. It is fairly easy to create textures for a pilot truck. There should be no need to use someone else's textures.

Furthermore, an advantage that you get with blender (3ds max might also have this. But don't quote me on that as I have never used it. I can only infer that it does based on the fact that you can bake with 3ds max.) But with blender, you can render the mesh and get a pretty good idea of what it will look like, even with only basic textures. The render engine does the shadows and such for you. ( then of course you have to bake it in order to get those effects in Trainz)

Actually the version I'm building is before 1938. they were rebuilt to look like the version at that time to have 80 inch Boxpok drivers then, like I said, I'm building four versions. the As built of 1927 to the 1938 rebuilds, including the 3752 with franklin rottery cam poppets and the 3751 Elesco rebuilds.

This is 3752 before the 1938 rebuild.

Then I'll be doing the version that 3751 is currently.

Thanks, norm. I'm actually experimenting with gloss surface work on the models as well. Once I finish my new textures I'll be loading them on soon.

Not even sure how to respond to that ridiculous statement.

Logan, I have known you for a long time and have seen you model your trains, ON HIS OWN

Actually you haven't, considering Logan hasn't finished anything he's started. And anything he has started has included my meshes as "placeholders". Do I need to show you the countless emails of him asking me to give him my source files so he can use them? Bet you didn't know that.

I haven't seen him steal your meshes Steve. And when he says he is going to replace them, he is going to replace them
I've seen him use my items on his models in which he said he planned to sell. So yup, wrong again.

Why can't you trust him? I know Logan hasn't stolen your meshes Steve. And I know he is not going to steal your textures. I'm going to keep an eye on him just to be sure.

You actually have NO idea what you're talking about. I do however consider it's been MY meshes and textures being used. NOT yours since you don't create anything.

And for you Logan, I hope you are correct that your going to make your own textures.

If you know him so well, then why do you have to hope he will make his own stuff? Because you clearly don't know him.

I caught Logan giving away my NYC hudson files on the rail works forums and lying claiming I gave him permission to. He started a model a year ago which clearly had my meshes and textures in which he claimed were his and that he planned to sell it. Trainz12fan100, I have great idea, how about you start a business, spend 10s of thousands of dollars on it, spend a half a decade learning your craft and building a reputation and devoting all your free to it, and then let some little twerp come along and use your work and pass it off as their own. I would love to see you just let it go. Theres a reason so many people are on my side with this, because it's happened before.

Logan, I warned you before that if I found out you planned to do anything with my meshes or textures that you would be sorry, and you're really pushing it here.

Look, Its only a place holder, I'm currently am doing timelapse by request for my first personal homemade texture and will be putting it on once I finish it. Then, I'll be removing your textures to be replaced with mine(I'm still figuring out how to make it look like a boiler).

How does a "placeholder" possibly help? You'll either have to redo the mapping with your new texture, or you'll be setting out to create a duplicate of Steve's texture. At that point why not go all the way and steal it?

A Place holder is so I can use it as a file guide for when I make a brand new texture so I know what I need to measure it to in photoshop. the image size has to be a multiple of 2 so it makes it easier to have the measurement already setup so I don't have errors.

It has to be a power of 2, specifically 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096. Now you don't need a placeholder since you have all required information.
