GMax and 3DSMax (And any other modeling program) screenies/renders

I think that he is talking about 3dsmax tutorials. Sorry but if you want to read my introduction tutorial to 3dsmax, that gave me lots of knowledge, you would need to read spanish. Altough, you can use google translate and guide with the images :D . And I higlhy recommend this too, that i believed that i knew almost all of basic modelling ,this really helped me

http://www.trensim.com/foro/viewtopic.php?p=273286#p273286

And search in youtube basic car modelling, and you will know how to make front nose of locomotives like TGV,Acela nd others using and moving vertexes and edges

Love the Gensets Conral123, although I am looking more at RP20BDs. But with Derrmys EVWR there is a good home for the ADM locos.

Almost there.

Looks like a good start. If you only do a few booleans it turns out fine but you do a lot or some on a complex mesh and it starts to distort the mesh giving some interesting results. I would recommend using the line tool if you are using 3dmax (I do not understand a thing with blender) to create the sides of the car with the cut outs for the windows. Doing this you will need to make the outside the inside and the window panels all separately.Although with the curve of the sides you will need to do each side panel at a time in order to put the curve of the side and the window cut outs if I am not mistaken. It douse take longer to make it with the line tool but you have a much better chance to not have a distorted mesh, best not to use the boolean as much as possible in my opinion.

Just my two cents.

I think modelling is much easier in Sketchup, and can be very frame rate friendly if you know how to use the grouping feature:

This is how I do it in Blender, make one window panel and copy it. I use boolean to make the window, it works OK for one. You can see 6 panels.

This is new passenger car I am working on.

Do you guys have any tutorials or videos you use to model? I would to check them out. I can't find any tutorials on building a train.

I bought a few used and new books from Amazon, these were great in giving me a better understanding in 3DS Max modelling. Not just the basic 3DS Max Bibles, these are only giving you the basics (so do speak). Books like:

Poly Modelling with 3DS Max (Thinking outside the box) by Todd Daniele
Damn good Number One book for me and an eye opener what 3DS Max and you REALLY can do.

3DS Max Modelling for Games (2nd ed) by Andrew Gahan
The basics in low Polygon creating as Trainz needs it.

How to Cheat in 3DS Max 2009 by Michele Bousquet
Lots of shortcuts to achieve the same if usually doing it the long way around.

3DS Max Accelerated by YoungChin
Some more to get a better understanding from 3DS Max.

But it was the 1st book in this list that opened my eyes to Poly Modelling, which is modelling with "Edit Poly" instead of "Edit Mesh" that showed me what one can REALLY do with 3DS Max. All these books AFAIK have tutorials on DVDs included or links to d/load these from their own web sites. Although some books are for a specific 3DS Max version, usually similar applies to ALL versions of it.

Cheers

Thx for the tips guy, very useful. Finally i used one to one boolean then lot of time working on the windows, but at least they look good :D
Now this yeah looks like an Amfleet

More specifically an Amfleet I (smaller windows). But they look great! Can't wait to start running them around.

any chance you might be willing to take a stab at the Beech Grove? :D many amtrak fans would love you for all eternity and might even take you to a dance or two if you made one XD
she's pretty much just an amcan with the back wall cut off. the inner wall replaced with windows and some fancy greeblies (cosplay term referring to gadgets and stuff you add to a weapon or something to make it look cooler)

Finally got it in trainz. The Amfleet I cuz Amfleet II only have 2 doors instead of 4, like Amfleet I.
For the site, hey thx, but the drawing in what this is based of is from there :D. And the F40PH too
And yes, i will make these cars, with and without pantograph. But the real focus of this was to start a metroliner, so after this, metroliner will be next
I have textured it and exported it to trainz, and as you see
1-Some colors are not correct, this is only a test
2-There will not be ugly Amfleets II and there is still lot to do

Some pics

Ivantr, you should put a disclaimer that saids, pics that I've posted is not responsible for jaws being lost or flooding due to drool. Nice work with NEC content!

There are more differences then just the 2-door, 4-door. The Amfleet Is have smaller windows, sliding doors, & different interior layouts.

However they're looking great! it would be sweet if you could make #10001 as well!

I wonder, when Amtrak Mothballs the AMCANS, how many people will replicate the style of the #10001 quite honestly she's probably my favorite single car in the entire fleet. though a tail Superliner car (rounded off into observation style) would look pretty interesting too. didn't CO railcar offer a bi level that had a jacuzzi on the tail end? I know they had a couple with a observation deck on the lower level. Mckinley Explorer on the ARR uses them. :/

well good thing too, but i got another one:

4VQzB.jpg

Hundai-Rotem Metrolink livery (ready to made into trainz)

i call it the "worst thing you've seen" ('cause some trainz users and railfans think that the cars are ugly).

Also, is there a way to make shadows in blender?
