You think everything needs to go to Strasburg. I can tell you with firsthand experience. Its NOT good when a museum/railroad gets too much equipment. When we got all the ex loop equipment at the Colorado Railroad Museum, it overwelmed us. about 53 new cars, all our tracks are filled to capacity, we cannot keep all 3 diesels and 3 steam locomtoives in perfect operating condition at once (we do try)

One of the Ex Loop diesels has a bad bearing, Shay 14 has a bad axle (both tens of thousands of dollars to fix) and IRCA 40 needs a firebox brick job

Too much equipment is not good
well yea strasburg should have lease 261 from the national railroad musuem.

for one thing the 261 was a good power out put as strasburg 90. and the other things that kliger is say that the CRRM IS DIFFERENT know strasburg.

261 was never Strasburg 90. "kliger is say that the CRRM IS DIFFERENT know strasburg?" I don't even know what to make of that jibberish! If you're trying to say that Strasburg is different than CRRM, no. Both have budgets.

no no no you got it wrong the 261 can run on strasburg rails. and it is heavy enogue like STRASBURG BALDWIN LOCOMOTIVE WORKS 90. EVEN THOE THE 261 IS ALCO NOT A BADWIN LOCMOTIVE.

SORRY for the capitals i got carried away. thank you and all aborad.

When are you going to get it through your head?!?

First of all, #90 is not a heavy engine. It is a light 2-10-0! You want to know what a heavy engine is? PRR 6755 in the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum.

Just because 261 ran at Steamtown does NOT mean that it is a tourist engine. Does the fact that when 261 was there, it ran round trips that were 26 miles, 54 miles, and nearly 120 miles contrary to Strasburg's NINE mile round trip?

Also to note, steamlocomotive.info confirms that #90 weighs in at 212,000 pounds, or 106 tons. It also states that Milwaukee Road 261 weighs in at 460,000 pounds, or 230 tons. Or to make it understandable to you, it weighs more than 90 and 475 together.

One more little thing. Why do you insist on calling it "STRASBURG #90"? By all accounts, why not call it "Great Western #90", or even "Great Western Strasburg #90"?

enough
though
Baldwin
locomotive

aboard

Yes, 261 is heavy enough to pull trains at Strasburg. In fact, it's too heavy. Alco does not automatically mean smaller than Baldwin, idiot. Big Boys were built by Alco.

90 is strasburg biggest engine. and to answer your qustion i made that therad to talk about STRASBURG 90 life on the great western AND strasburg as a tourist engine.

That many? It sure doesn't seem like there are.

And what about the other shay besides #14?

can we get back to the GCRY 4960.

Can you not interrupt?

back to GCRY 4960

SO like why did the owners of the grand canyon railroad cut then revive their steam program?

@Sam

Go look around the turntable. The East end of the roundhouse is packed coupler to coupler with projects. All the sidings are filled near the Watertank except one which can fit maybe two more cars. All the sidings around where B-8 and Coach 256 are are packed. All the Sidings around CB&Q 5629 are full except the one near the road which can fit maybe 2 more cars. Once the three way switch is finished, we will actually gain quite a bit of storage space, but its still a long way from done.

And I assume you mean West Side Lumber Co. 12. She is all painted and pretty, and in perfect working order. We ran her back for both Steam-ups in October

for one thing the 261 was a good power out put as strasburg 90. and the other things that kliger is say that the CRRM IS DIFFERENT know strasburg.

CRRM is not as different as you thing. Both CRRM and Strasburg have a limited budget. Without money to operate and most importantly maintain locomotives AND equipment, it wont run, period. We also both have limited space. These museums don't go on forever. Strasburg also contracts out work for other railroads, so the shops are normally filled to capacity with contract work for other museums and railroads. I know this because this has been what sets back RGS 20 constantly, because while they are contracted to preform the work, we have not been able to fully pay the bill, so other contract work gets in the way of finishing 20.

Strasburg's current fleet is about as big as they can handle. They can't realistically handle, nor find a purpose to need more steam locomotives. The one's they have are enough.

Just like there is no reason for us to restore D&RGW 318 back into service. The Museum owns two steam locomotives that will eventually operate. 346 and 20 which is being restored. We also have 40 and 12 from the Loop which operate, and 14 with could run with a little work. Thats 5 steam locomotives for a 3/4 of a mile loop of track, and operating trains every few months only.

Thats not to include the 2 Museum owned diesels which operate, the 2 Loop owned diesels which operate, and the 1 that needs work. We simply have TOO MANY locomotives to keep all of them in prime working order. That is NO different then the situation at Strasburg. they have the same issue at hand.

Do you, the little 15 year old Danny Phantom Fan, want to continue to argue with the 21 year old railroader with 4 years experience, and friends in the industry with 20 or more years experience?

According to them, to be "Green"

Which is a bunch of bull, because you can actually run a steam locomotive more efficiently then a diesel if you have a good crew. The real reason was to save money so they could have a higher bottom line. it all comes down to money.

are you a railroader for a steam railroad?

are you a railroader for a steam railroad?

I suppose he'll be more than happy to continue the argument. But judging by the way he acts, there's no point in doing so since he'll never change his ways until, or if, the mods step in.

The true purpose of teaching him how the real world works has been defeated.

I've seen all the reeeeaaalllyyy old stuff back up on the hillside near the No Agua Water Tower and such. I apparently need to pay attention to more than just DSP & P #191 (actually 51) methinks... XD

Klinger, what are the plans for the #20 display? I saw something about they are supposed to have a bridge somewhere or other for it,
