Being from South Jersey, Cape May County is one of my favorite routes:

That looks like a cool route. I often vacation there in the summer. There's a grade crossing on the highway that is abandoned, but still has the gates and rail in place, in fact I am not sure if it's abandoned. There is the entire line left. There are old railroad bridges out in the salt marsh that intrigue me, like pic 4.

Depends where you vacation. If you're interested, I can provide you tons of information on the P-RSL rails of South Jersey. 2 parts of the old Cape May main line are still used: Tuckahoe to Richland, and Cape May to Rio Grande ( Cold Spring ). CANAL movable bridge at the Cape May Canal is quite interesting as it must remain in the open position for sea traffic. If you guys are interested, go here : http://s4.zetaboards.com/amtkz/topic/10251173/1/ and look at how I've begun to rehabilitate the old route.

Its a real shame that the wildwood branch was completely abandoned. I think NJT would have a good market if they ran trains to Cape May with bus connections to Wildwood and Ocean City.

What's funny is that the grade crossing with modern gates, lights, and bells, is still there. Could be on a different line, though.

Thats not really that uncommon. When a RoW is abandoned, the former company has no money to pull fixed equipment. Its not cheap to have a crew go pull things like that. Further, many cities and states (Not all), usually would prefer to see Rail service resume at some point because of the effect it can have on economies, so they're usually not in a rush to pull out the equipment either. It usually takes a concerted effort of citizens that want a bike trail or some such non-sense before old Rail equipment gets removed. Telecommunications companies love old RoW's as well, but they won't always scrap the equipment either.

Those are cool screenshots. I'm glad TANE is handling older content very well and I know it's gonna get alot better because TANE is going to get better and better. The increased draw distance, greenery, and interface looks great.

Nice job, hminky. I spent the first 7 years of my life in Cape May and your screenshots look like familiar territory to me. Well done!
