First off sorry if this is in the wrong fourm

Ok I've got 2006 on a Vista machine, and it used to run like a dream, till yesterday when I wanted to delete a spline point, when 06 CTD'd and now whenever I try to restart the game I get the message below.

I've reinstalled the game and also tried my copy of trainz classics, but I still get the above message. I don't think my PC screwed as other games start up and run just fine.

Any help would be great cheers.

Yeah. I know how that feels...

... Even though I don't get the error you have I press start and trainz starts up but it doesn't get any farther then that.

By that what I mean is the game's menu doesn't show up. it's like the game crashes through mid-loading.

this happens every time I download anything other then the re-rail portal. no mater how big it is.:'(

Try navigating to the TRS2006 directory and delete the assets.tdx file, then go to Cache and delete the assets.bku file. Restart TRS and wait until it starts fully. (A lot of issues can be solved by deleting these 2 files.)

I've just done that, and I seem to have my game back ... for the time being.

Edit: Well the game runs fine, but CMP has decided to crash even more than usual :n: more so when I try to download stuff

Thanks for the help by the way. :)

installing outside the program files directory, running as admin, giving admin rights to all of the .exe's, and -intro=disable has solved my 2006 issues.

maybe its overkill, but it works.

How do you give admin rights? Vista makes thing's like that as clear as mud.

logon as admin
navigate to \yourtrainzdir\bin
with each .exe, right-click -> properties -> compatibility (tab) -> check "run this program as an administrator"
click OK

good luck

Just go to the TRS06 folder and delete "Assets.tdx

On XP machine it loads fine about 2 or 3 times after I installed it. Then it locks up after clicking start. I did delete the assets.tdx and the other file but its still not loading. Are there any other suggestins?

It doesn't lock up, when you delete the assets.tdx, CMP will appear to freeze, but what it is actually doing, is rebuilding the database. The trouble is, the database is extremely fragile (thats not the word! Its worse than fragile). Any bit that is out of place, it rebuilds the whole lot from scratch! Therefore, it takes as long as it is searching for content. You can see this happening, by removing the "local" directory and placing it elsewhere on the computer. It will rebuild the database in seconds, rather than minutes or hours.

A good reason why not to let CMP crash! It needs to be closed properly to stop this crashing.

A way to monitor this is to make the three fingered salute (CTRL & ALT & DEL), go to the processes tab, and watch the figures for either Content manager.exe or launcher.exe. If the figure on the right (under mem usage) is going up, then you are okay. If the CPU figure is stuck at 100% (on single cores, 50% on dual cores, 25% on quad cores), then kill the task with the end process button at the bottom of the task manager window, and start again!

Well I've tried cleaning out the reg entry, and still no luck! the game will only start through CMP and even then it CTDs after ten minutes. Unless some one has any ideas, trainz 06 is KIA on my PC. And my want to play the damn thing with it!

My WH40K Imperial Guard needs painting anyway.

Thanks for all the help guys by the way.

What worked for me was

to delete the asset.tdx file. And yes I know you did this but I ended up doing this three times one morning until it was running smoothly. The file created was getting smaller each time (which may, or may not be something to worry about).

what you do have to do is to then give Trainz a LOT of time to rebuild, go away for an hour or so. Don't rush it. Eventually it comes good.

The latest problem was caused when I had been in CMP and had gone into Surveyor (Trainz) from the top button. When I closed Trainz CMP starts up, unfortunately I accidently touched the mouse button as the screen was coming up. Completely killed CMP for then and all time. Talk about flaky!

Ok I've got the game to work for more than ten minutes, but I still can't start it straight from the shortcut on my desktop. I'm still having to go through Content Manager to get in game.

If I try the start button, it will bring up the first loading screen, the screen will go black and then it just gives me the same error as I put in my first post.
