Gabba 5 Ways train pics.

If it ain't broke...!
Found these photos from the 50'/60's when trains still crossed Main Street at Woolloongabba, (the 'Gabba), Brisbane Queensland. Note the walking flag bearing train controller - as if you wouldn't see or hear the trains. The 5 ways was a meeting place for trains, trams and cars, right up to the diesel era.

Note the twin trolley bus wires above loco funnel as well as the possible trolley bus on right of screen. The give away is the possible roof gear on the bus but not a clear picture. Possible same train as first picture as the bell and flagman is over dressed and suggests an official photo as the other pictures show the normal dress code I remember.

The other feature of that area was the outbound trams along Ipswich Rd occasionally lost the pole as they had a tight curve off the Logan Rd line and thus it was more than a 90 degree bend with a reverse twist at the southern end.

If your tram was fairly full the crew did not always mind if you rode in the rear motorman's cabin as in those days people trusted passengers :D :D

Trams finished 13 April 1969 and then we rode buses.

Thanks for the insights. I only came to Qld in 1989, so I never saw the 5 Ways looking like this.
