the IRON MOUNTAIN Returns...
after sitting on my hard drive for sometime.. i decided to peel open this old route and poke around abit.
This is what i caught romping around on the IM tracks last week..
First off, I caught the Dalatin St. local as it slowly grinds across Dalatin St. to drop off 2 box cars for the Fox Box Compnay.. That brakeman surely doesnt look too happy standing in the middle of the road..
Since the train is only allowed to do 5mph on these tracks(due to their poor condition) i was able to run around the train and catch this next shot of the S2 shoving hard to drop its load.. Its evident that someone hasnt been through here with a weedwacker recently..
I delayed on my next picture, waiting for the small but mighty unit to push the load into place, where i then caught it leaving Fox Box company, producing the traditional Alco smoke..
Elsewhere in the City of Iron Mountain, Minnesota; more heavy railroad action was going on as one of the Ore Trains bound for the docks slowly passed Main St. at grade.. It was noted that it had some strange power that day, with the small RS3 Leading 2 massive runthrough Willow Lake & Granville SD45s..
The 3 unit ore train grinded past as i came out of the Gas station after filling my car up. It looked like it was working very hard.
Sitting next to the 3 unit ore train was 2 Iron Mountain C424s with an MTY ore train bound for the iron mines back on the mountain. When Iron Mountain purchased these 2 units, they never bothered to patch them, so it is quite a catch to find 2 ex Conrail C424s..
After the First ore train cleared the switch, the C424s got the Highball, and hammered on out of the downtown bypass with their MT ore jennys
I caught 1 more shot of the other C424, still with its Conrail Logos showing through.. Being far enough from the actual Conrail/Norfolk Souther/CSX tracks gave the IM an advantage to use that unit still in CR Blue..
You could hear the massive ALCo 251D V16s within the C424s as the managed to ease their oretrain out of downtown.. Soon, he was gone and my camera battery died.. so thats the last of them for now.
