Freelance USA mountain railroad

I made a preliminary release of this layout to the DLS this evening. I'm not sure how long it will take before it's actually available.
Edit: It's now listed under my assets as 'available soon'. I've noticed that a few more people have downloaded the original layout in the last few hours.
Edit: I don't know what's taking so long. It's still markes as 'available soon' after more than 24 hours. Auran approved it ages ago.

At the moment, the two branch-lines just end (i.e. fall off the edge of the world). These will be completed in another release (date unknown).
There are a few subtle changes to the lower section since the video released yesterday. Rather than tell you what they are, I'll just wait and see if anyone comments. Actually, I've just remembered, I meant to add more trees to the original section, but I'm not going to pull it off the DLS at this stage. I'll just add those for the next release.

Hope you all enjoy the route. I'd appreciate any comments you may have.

Slight Problem:

when I search up "Wyefield Junction 2a release April 2012" it doesn't show up. When I search up your username it doesn't come up with anything either. What do I do?

Sometime within the last few minutes, the route finally became available on the DLS. :clap::clap:
I notice that there is already one download, so I'm obviously not the first to discover this.
Please somebody, give it a test run and let me know if everything uploaded properly.

Edit: Got it, but had to download as a CDP. Download helper wouldn't recognize it's location.

2 assets missing dependencies
1) Ore Hopper DH loaded <kuid2:60238:15048:1> missing dependency <kuid:60238:50014> unknown location. (Doesn't Vulcan have his own site somewhere?)
2) B&O S class 2-10-2 6001 <kuid:45588:4744> missing *essentially 3 bogies and the interior* unknown location.

Remember where you got them?

The route is beautiful! The new favorite, without a doubt!

I wasn't the first, but pretty close... found it around 8:15pm tonight. I used CMP and downloaded without a hitch and no missing content. I added a couple track markers at certain points, and within 30 minutes had a coal drag just looping the entire layout via the three 'turn around boards'. It has been circling now for over 3 hours without an issue. Running it on TS12.

I have been following the progress and wish to congratulate you on a spectular route. Thanks for sharing what you have so far. I'm sure the final project will be even better. You seem to have a talent for getting the 'lay of the land.'

Browsing the Forum, I happened onto this thread. You are very talented at route making, your years as a model-railroader working with styrofoam, whatever you used, shows. Really nice landforms you can make. I like how your hand-made mountains have a 'rugged' look. It really looks like a railroad company had to do a lot of surveying and blasting to lay this route. Very well done! Now, question about hand-terraforming. Do you use any splines, rail or road, laid up along the supposed slope, then use the 'smoothing' tool to raise the terrain, or just carve it away with 'raise' 'lower' tools? I'm interested.
 
I searched the DLS but all I found was the very first part which didn't include any of the mountain pass. Is the new version called something else or am I having problems?

EDIT: I found it on the DLS but not in my content manager. I downloaded the original. Help? I serched the kuid but nothing came up.

Well, it looks like I do have quite a fan club after all. 145 downloads in the first 24 hours. I don't know if that is considered good, but it's more than I expected (part one was only downloaded 800 times in almost a year). I hope you are all enjoying the route.

As for the problems with the 2-10-2... I thought I had deleted all the trains before I uploaded the route. I guess I missed one. Based on the kuid, that locomotive is by cincysouthernrwy, which I think is a re-skin of one of bdaneal's locomotives available from his website. If you download his 2-10-2, the missing dependencies will probably appear. From memory, I think I had to do some work to get it to run on Trainz2010. I just hope I haven't goofed up and violated copywrite by failing to remove it from the route.

Regarding jbanetman's query about the landforms... I hardly ever use the raise and lower tools. I start by building up the rough bulk of the mountain in a few steps using the 'set height' tool, typically terracing the mountain in 50m increments with both the control dials set to maximum. Then I use the 'plateau' tool to carve the shape I want. I start with the control dials cranked up and gradually move them both down as I refine the area.
 
Thanks, you are to be congratulated on an excellent job, even if I did get sidetracked into downloading the rest of Bens stuff while sorting out the 2-10-2, already have a lot of his stuff so thought I may as well bag the rest!
 
Thanks Handlaid, for the explanation on how you terraform. I will try your terracing method. DEMs for an accurate prototype of a certain route is nice, but sometimes you just want to freelance something, in a model-railway layout way, which are interesting too.

Of course it's OK to post some screenshots of your own. This thread is for discussion and pictures of this route. Now that it is released, I no longer hold a monopoly on the ability to post pictures. The only thing I would ask, is that any pictures posted elsewhere give me credit as the route-builder.

I'm guessing from your avatar that your screenshots will look very different from mine. Third-generation diseasels [sic] is not what I had in mind when planning the route. To do it properly, a few changes would be necessary, such as filling in the turntable pit at summit, removing the water towers (or replacing them with rusty relics), replacing the coaling towers with diesel storage tanks, removing or boarding up the passenger stations, deleting most of the industrial spurs, cramming the roads with cars, adding more vegetation to the cuttings to represent another 50 years of growth.

I just hope I never see pictures of Thomas the tank engine on this route as there are no major mountain ranges on Sodor:hehe:.
 
I am looking on content manager, as before when I have tried to download things, the download page ftp link has not worked. I did find it on the dls but am not sure how to download it.

Hey I still love steam!!!!!!! Read my timberline creek thread or cripple creek and san juan thread and you'll find I still like steam (I may like diesels but I like steam equally, otherwise I wouldn't have an HO RI 2-8-0)! enough ranting, some pics (and luckily there wont be any Thomas, I hate that show its a disgrace to trains)

If you've tried all 3 options (Download Helper, Download Via FTP, Add to cart) and it still won't work, it might be something odd with TS Mac...try posting the question in the TS Mac forum (if nothing else, to eliminate the possibility)
