What's up with all the bickering on the forums lately? Especially on the Jointed Rail goodies thread that was just recently closed? I thought my flame-wars over the Southern Pacific vs. Union Pacific were bad, but I guess not. I'm surprised it took three requests for the mods to close it but then again, when it's Jointed Rail and the people who comment on those pages have high prestige, class, status, good standing & background with the general community, etc., I guess you'll get the benefit of the doubt and more leeway than usual. But ain't none of my business what goes on here. And besides, who am I to criticize, judge, call out, and so on.

But I thought this was a place of worship for Trains, the greatest invention to mankind, at least to me personally. Not Jerry Springer, for all of you who watch it. I know someone will take exception to this, but least be honest here.

I also agree that this is a place for trains, not quarrelling. I do find it hard to resist a Diesel vs Steam fight though, I'm always on the steam side.

It's a shame that the arguments do start, and I do admit to starting two on Team Speak 3, and contributing to others. But I don't approve of bickering, especially about a problem that was already solved!

I'll stop now, before I start another one. :)

 The Jointed Rail Goodies thread was several years old.

I was no longer serving a useful purpose and was a distraction due to posts that led nowhere.

I'm glad they closed it.

Any new JR releases will continue to be posted(and are welcome!), any problems related to the content presented in that thread should be directed to the appropriate forum community.

I have noticed this too. I have noticed that some of them lately have been started by people who want to know where they can find one of everything, and those who get annoyed by the constant asking over-react a tad and we get our flamewar. Others start when people resurrect years old threads (like the Jointed Rail Goodies one) and ask questions about things that clearly haven't been worked on for sometime and ask if they are finished and where they can be found. I understand that it can get irritating, but some of us tend to over do it a bit. Almost forgot that there are also those, who, once a flamewar has started, prod and poke at it to make things worse on purpose, just to get some enjoyment and then it makes sense to get angry at those people. (I wrote this last sentence with someone in mind, which is why I wrote it. Any guesses?) Like CaptainKMan said, it is silly to argue over an easy to solve issue, I 'll admit that I have commented in some, but the high quantities of bickering really needs to be brought down. There are reasons why I haven't made or released anything new lately.

I'm not trying to point fingers or anything, but can we please stick to trains please.
(I probably have just lit that flame with this)

Yes please for the sake of peace, love, and trains. It's not like you're getting paid for your services.

I'm right there with you guys. In fact I wrote a blog about it. Regarding the JR post, I was fine till I was cussed out for something that I didn't even do. Back to the point. The fighting that goes on here is the reason I really don't post here anymore, and if it were possible I would gladly terminate my account here.

Not sure I can add much to what's already been said, but one thing I've noticed (like wilh) is that there are times when an innocent comment gets taken out of context, and then off we go. Case in point; anybody remember that big US vs. UK flamewar that was raging in the Prototype Talk section a year or two ago? (I know it was around the time the Lobato Trestle had burned and the C&TS was cut in two) I started one of them; I posted a picture I had found of Cumbres and Toltec/D&RGW K-36 No. 487 painted up in the god-awful paint scheme K-36 No. 483 wore in the movie "The Good Guys and the Bad Guys." Honestly, I tought it was kinda comical; heck, I titled it "and the ugliest engine of the year award goes to..." next thing I know, I'm diving for a foxhole as the insults fly back and forth.

Honestly, aren't there a LOT better things we could actually be arguing over, rather than this? It's just hobbies and trains, for heaven's sake. If you start taking a hobby too seriously, it's not fun anymore. and isn't that what having a hobby's all about anyway?

 A lot of the problem comes from the fact that there are no mentors like we had in our early years. Our fathers/grandfathers or family friends were there not only teaching us about railroading but also how to get along with other peoples, even one's that we don't see eye to eye with.

It seems now that members will go out of their way to throw a barb or flame when keeping silent would be so much easier and way more appropriate.

It gets to the point that if someone has nothing to offer they usually turn a post into a personal slander or ad hominem attack.

I believe you are referring to M0ose?

Lols. To be fair, I think he could become a very nice person to have in the community, if those idiots like Thomasbc stop being fools. He has made death threats to some people, and that is the first time the forum has gone that low. He should be banned permanantly.

There have been a few characters who could normally be relied upon to feed the flames of most any flame war. I find the 'ignore' feature invaluable.
