Fix engine sound for BNSF SD40-2

Some time ago I downloaded the locomotive:
BNSF SD40-2 <kuid2:45324:100037:1>

It looks OK, it works well, but the sound it makes is horrible!
I think if I turned on my chain saw and recorded it, the sound would be less offensive.
What is worse, once the locomotive is in the Driver, every other locomotive makes the same noise.
The entire map is humming as if it was attacked by a locust. If I place this locomotive on a track in Surveyor,
I get strange cracking noise all over the map.

The config file has tag "enginesound" set to the value of <kuid:104722:53468>, which is
an obsolete version of the installed sound asset:
EMD 16-645E1 enginesounds v2 <kuid2:104722:53438:1>

Is it possible to get a proper sound for this locomotive?

Just find a sd40 on the DLS and download the sound file for it.
I see you have 2009.
SD40 sounds 2004 General Electric 7FDL-12 or EMD 16-645E1 v2 engine sounds was listed as a 2009 asset for a SD40.

Gerry
PS Try this one
BN SD40-2 #7308
<KUID2:653172:1009:1>

Thanks for your quick replies.

Unfortunately, I cannot locate asset <KUID2:653172:1009:1> on DLS. Is this kuid correct?

When I search for name "SD40" and category "sound", I get two matches only, both for horn sound only.

When I go to jointedrail.com/Engine Sounds there are two sub-categories: 1/ Trainz 2012, 2/ Trainz 09 & 10. None of them contains any products.

I need to fix this problem in TC version of Trainz. I do have TS 2009, but I don't use it, because my PC is not powerful enough.

They dont contain anything since your not logged in as you must be logged in the site to see that category as well as freeware. Everything is for 2009 SP4 and up on our site, Trainz Classics is not supported by us. It may be because this asset is not made for Trainz Classics that your having this issue as I can assure you in 2009 and up, it works flawlessly and doesnt sound anything near what your describing.

the sound mentioned above is only on the DLS, you will not find an update for it at jointedrail.com, but you could find a replacement for TS09 only. you would have to edit the config to accept the new sound asset.

The correct kuid should be <kuid2:653172:100947:1>: https://www.auran.com/TRS2004/DLS_viewasset.php?AssetID=273829

Click on Download Page to see the dependencies (including the sound).

Peter

this is not really addressing the problem, for one it is another locomotive entirely, and also because it is using the exact same sound as the one he says is being a problem for him.

with all of that being said, i do not understand why the engine sound would be corrupt. maybe you should delete it and install a fresh copy from the DLS?
