I have Trainz A New Era version Collector's Edition, but I'm confused as to what version I should download to keep the software up-to-date. What's the difference between Trainz and T:rane? How do I download SP1 and any hot fixes? Any help would be appreciated.

OK - there are a few steps involved.

Firstly though you will need to turn off the disable online features option in the Trainz Settings box (it's on the Internet tab) then enter your details. Once done, close the Trainz Settings box which should then cause a patch prompt to appear which will take you to 78860.

Once you are there it's a case of patching to Service Pack 1 (it will be the 78860 - 80345 patch you will need which is available either via my flowchart or on the SP1 patching page via MyTrainz > Download T:ANE then clicking the small banner at the top of that page. Make a note of the instructions on the following page though as you will need them after patching. Look in the second section down for the patch I mentioned then download and install it (make sure T:ANE is closed during that process).

Once done it should be possible to use the in-game patching facility again to patch up to the latest build.

Jerry, Click on My Trainz at the top of this page and log into your account.

Once in your own account click onto GET TANE PATCH INFORMATION again at the top of that page.

Read all the instructions on the next page carefully, patients is required while patching T:ANE as it must be allowed to rebuild the database before being run.

Point of interest, I rebuilt a computer the other week but instead of installing T:ANE and patching from a previous download, I just downloaded and installed the online installer from my own account and it did everything for me and saved all the fiddling. Peter

You do not "need" to go disable the "Disable offline features" option - in fact, I generally advise against it, unless you need to access the DLS. You can download the offline SP1 patch from under "My Trainz". The direct link is below. Select Offline Patching (Retail Versions) and I believe the one you want is the 12th one down. The subsequent patches are also available there. Personally, I only updated to SP1 (no hotfix) since there seem to be some issues I'd like to see worked out.
