Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland WIP

You are missing a great deal of point there. People use it because it is up to date and more advanced than previous versions, which is THE POINT of releasing the new version anyway. You make it sound like we should all use what you use, where in reality it makes more sense for you to upgrade like those of us who have.

Have a good think about that...
Cheers

The DLS cleanup means that compatibility mode is more or less redundant anyway. I never used it when I used 2010 and therefore gained much in terms of performance.

Building for TS10 compatibility mode essentially means building for TRS06 which is essentially an 8 year old standard. So I think he's quite right to build for TS12.

The key issue now is whether to build for TS12 SP1 exclusively to exploit functionality that's only available in the latest version. As someone with 'old' TS12, I rather hope he chooses to maximise the audience for his excellent route.

Malc, will the route use DLS-only assets or will there be dependencies from other sites? Reason I ask is that it would make a brilliant multiplayer route

As far as the route goes it should be 100% DLS, I have a fresh nothing added copy of TS12 49922 sitting on another PC so I can check when the routes finished that everything is on the DLS and can be downloaded.

Sessions / multiplayer may be an issue due to certain FR items only being available from Trainzone, I don't think Kevin (kevmt) would allow his items on the DLS. For anyone wondering I haven't abandoned updating Kevins stuff, just that SP1 has messed up what I have done a bit, issues with Engine specs that work pre and post SP1, so will have to go through them all again and they will have to be on Trainzone.

hardly. CM3.3 still b*itches about 99% of the 3rd-party content I have installed. Frankly TS12 shows that N3V is becoming no better than the boys who made Railworks: IE unless you release it on THEIR specific site on THEIR specific terms, they're gonna make it nigh impossible for you to get your content to work with the game...

And I've wondered why I play MSTS so much more now?

OK enough, this is a WIP screenshots thread not a platform for moaning about Trainz versions, take it elsewhere.

Forgot to ask about the red watertower - looks great! I'm assuming we'll see it on the DLS in due course?

Yes, I've done all the WHR one's, there are differences! The Caernarfon needs the correct textures on it though which i need to get round to.

Malc - Quick question about Mountaineer, which is a lovely looking loco - but has it been coded up to consume coal and water? That would make driving it so much more fun than just having an infinite supply of fuel or not having to tend the fire and boiler at all. :)

The one on the DLS, no it hasn't, the one sitting on my hard drive has though, plus a revised engine spec and cab view using an invisible interior and the line outside-visible-from-cabin 1, working controls are beyond me at present however I'm using a couple of scripts by Bob Pearson which enable the use of keyboard or on screen controls. This has an automatic fireman option in addition to the in game one so if not needed you need to disable both, scroll down in the loco setup for the second auto fireman tick box.

Drawback in using the invisible interior you are sharing the cab with the driver figure, I have adjusted the camera positions so you can more or less avoid it.

I've been holding off uploading in case there are any more TS12 patches that mess up the steam engine specs again. However if you want to try it out I've put the updated bits on mediafire it's a bit tricky to get going, easy on the cutoff and regulator, the engine spec is a bit of a compromise so that it works in both 49922 and 58414 http://www.mediafire.com/download/82iqxc6ndyuhshn/mountaineer.cdp

I'm actually doing the same "bodge" to all the rest of my Loco's, only been concentrating mainly on getting the route finished so they are still on the finish testing and tidy up to do list.
