Favorite USA steam locomotives

I THIKN SAY MY DASH 14 AND SD76 TRAINS GUYS!!!!!1!11

What? close this thread please because I had just about enough of sampug's comments which I find disturbing towards me and I admit I made a small mistake when it came to the 0-8-0 locomotive's size but still I don't want this thread to remain open if he is going to respond like that!

Hudson

Mine is the NYC Hudson, not the streamlined one. That was a great looking engine. Lionel modeled this engine a number of times. I wish someone would make one for Trainz.

My favourite would have to be the 4-2-0 John Bull - a British engine customised for American terrain.

It once had a cab, and a bigger tender, than it does now, but it's still a grand, old locomotive.
It was actually a 2-4-0, unless you're talking about something else...

UP5521,

I understand your frustrations, but here is a valid point.

In my local newspaper, the Fentress Courier a man by the name of Phil from the Jamestown Church of Christ writes a weekly Newspaper Sunday School article as I call it, but in this week's column, it applies to everyone, religous or not.
He talks about, constructive critisism, he points out that although our first notion is to become angry with it, we should really take it as a compliment, because it really makes us better people, if the person who is critizing you knows what their talking about.
I understand a few of us here aren't to good with words, but here is the point, we tell you this to prevent you from looking stupid, for your own good.
I know because believe me, I have had my share of learning here, and still have a alot to learn!

Cheers,
Woody

Just shut this thread down Now because I cannot take anymore and the last thing I need is a fellow trainzer dis-respecting me which sampug did and that angered me,and yeah I am really angry with this response and the last thing I want to do is report this to one of the fellow members watching this forum!

SP 4-6-0 2248
BNSF 9920(ex CB&Q 9990)
The SP Narrow gauge steamers.

The rest of SP steam.

hello friend, it is good to hear from you again!

Sorry I had not spoken to you for a while, how are the mogul locomotives doing? Sampug394 has been making me very angry ever since I been on here and had to leave for a while to get my head together but I am still showing signs of frustration becase of the mean response I got when it came to steam engines.

The Hell...

Honestly, This is already getting too Far for a Comment saying 'COMPLETELY WRONG' on my Own thread about Lesser Known NG Steam.

That 0-8-0 or Whatever is NOT the Largest Narrow Gauge Steam Locomotive there was. I'm not even sure how Anybody concludes that when there are several, Very Large, Narrow Gauge 2-8-2 Mikados running right here in Colorado. I can assure anybody they are Bigger than Said 0-8-0. :n:

And P.S., I honestly think #4449, #3985 & #844 are being TOTALLY Overrated. What about the Chinese Built QJ 2-10-2s Running in Iowa right now? Apparently everybody's Forgotten about them, EVEN THOUGH they are Moving Freight among the Iowa Interstate's DIESELS!

Moderators, Please close this Thread.

hmm I'm sure that these steam engines like the ones you named are but the QJs however, maybe they can be classified that as well!

The 0-8-0

The 0-8-0 looked a heck of a lot bigger than any K-36 Locomotive that I've ever seen... Look at it's height! it may not be the longest or the most powerfull, but it was desighned to shunt heavy loads of both NG & SG cars averaging at 30 loaded cars per train!

One extra note: the 0-8-0 had only been through and back through the Doe River Gorge only once out of it's 29 years of service!

An ET&WNC historian told me that the thing required heavy maintenance though...

But just tell me the clearance comparing the K-36 & 0-8-0 #7. #7 looks:D alot taller to me!

mine has to be 0-4-0 flagg coal #75 http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y143/ptatham/Train Festival 2009 Owosso/DSC04228_rs.jpg

and of course the shay engine!all kinds of them,

ET&WNC #7, was the only 0-8-0 produced by ALCO, in hopes of starting a trend of shunting locomotives. #7 was the largest locomotive up to "it's" time in 1906, but as soon as the DRG&W came out with there k-27 and other large engines, the fame dropped.

#7s maintaince really was not that big of an issue, until her latter years. one problem was the worped frame from shunting standerd gauge cars in Johnson City. The ET&WNC tried to replace #7 with an ex N&W 2-8-0 #828, but did not go so well. Clyde Simerly of the ET&WNC spoke very poorly of 828, and claimed to be the only fireman to convince the saftys to lift, since it was that poor of a steamer. On another note 828, used more coal than #7, and pulled less cars.

BTW, WPY 190 class locomotives are longer than the K-37s, just not as tall, or heavy.

Rock On!
Dusten

Ex-D&RGW 473

Why? Because she has had a tough life. She was thrown off an enbankment, rammed by a truck full of potato's, caught fire with a full load of coal and water in a roundhouse, disgraced with that stupid fake stack, painted in UP colors for a movie, and been constantly operating since she was built.

And yet, day after day, she chugs on. Getting her running gear overhauled this year too.
