Fatal Error!

Acidfree

Dogey Route Bilder
I Have Just Down loaded Some Assets, Then Opened Tranz 2006 And
Got A Fatal Error = Reason Access Violation.
Recoverable Yes!
Now What do I do, If I Cant Open i Have Lost 2 Large Layouts And Weeks Of
Work. Please Don't Say I Will Have To Reinstall. Please HELP!

You don't absolutely have to reinstall. Do you get this error after choosing start or manage content?

Okay, go into your 2006 folder and remove the assets.tdx file and the assets.bku file if you have one. Just drag them out to your desktop. Then try to restart 2006. It now has to rebuild the database, so it may take awhile. I'll monitor this thread into the night to see how you're getting on.:)

Errors! I hate them!

Talking of errors, i've got a few.

No 1. My computer completely freezes sometimes when i'm in Trainz 2006.
No 2. Sometimes when I start Trainz, it freezes before it gets to the Surveyor/Driver/Railyard menu.
No 3. Trainz sometimes shuts down when i'm in it. It says "Fatal Error"

:'( :(

Now that you've got your layout back, back it up! It's possible for a Trainz crash to actually corrupt the file you're working on past recoverability, especially if it occurs while you're editing the route in surveyor. (it doesn't happen very often, but it happens.) There are a lot of different strategies for this, but resaving every 1/2 hour or so with a new name (NorthWest001, NorthWest002, etc.) is one that works for me. That way no matter what happens I can at least revert to the previously worked on version.

Of course, if your hard drive goes south so will everything else. You might want to back up to an attached USB hard drive or other storage to be on the safe side.
