Failure to stop at crossing takes life

On my way home from working in Somerset PA I got to see first hand what happens when a motorist fails to stop for a crossing train. A CSX train hauling coal hopper empties smashed into the driver's side of an SUV. The train pushed the SUV off the road killing the driver. The accident was observed by a local policeman who said that the driver failed to obey the crossing lights and the train's wistle. I observed that the train stopped within a hundred or so yards from the crossing. Therefore the train could not have been traveling faster than 10 miles per hour at the time of the accident. The engineer appears to have followed all expected safety rules during this accident and does not seem to be at fault. There have been other accidents at this crossing and this crossing should have a gate rather than just warning lights.

For other examples of CSX safety record see here:http://www.csx-sucks.com/

Here is a picture of the area of the accident

Notice the highway signs in the backround. The accident occurred at the crossing on the right side of the signs.

How sad. :(

Just as a note, threads like this should usually be posted in the "Prototype Talk" forum, unless they involve actual Trainz Community members. ;)

Regards.

Accidents like this are sad indeed. I feel sorry for the engineer, there was little he or she could do.

I also do feel sad for the driver. RIP.
