What'd you say? C'mon, pull your gun! Me and Ferrous Bill here are gonna make you think twice about talking 'bout steamers like that!

So fanciful a query...

 I would not give this thread a thought, however despite no trains like this in my town, I can respond, having been a TRS member.

Before the Evolution locomotives were introduce, we had every GE locomotive equipped with an ALCo enginesound.

A default enginesound, equipped in several Trainz versions, by default.

Something happened when the General Electric Evolution locomotives came out, and someone took the initiative.

Ish6, produced an enginesound for World of Trainz, and I can't get away from any loco equipped with it!

It has the acceleration, a fairly consistent full power throttle, and a deceleration that simply kills me!

I give every GE loco this sound, and being a life-long EMD fan, I refuse to apologize!

That, folks, is what the ES44AC, DC, ES40DC, has done for me!

I disagree that a steam job is cleaner to work on than these new diesels though, the older diesels EMD's GP series did leak fumes into the cab. The older diesels had another unpleasant problem the noise caused severe hearing loss to crews that worked on them.

In terms of economics Steam is still costlier to run than diesel electric technology. Although, the steam locomotive is not developed to its full potential. I am interested in what ceramics could do to reduce cost of boiler maintenace. In terms of over the road handling of trains steam is competitive if used in high speed service. Steam is not competitive with diesel electrics in switching or drag freight service.

eh, no i hate the gevos.

They may be the newest on the block but I like the older GP9's. The only new engine i would like is the C44-9W. anything made past 2000 i hate. especially anything wearing: yellow, red, grey and the letters UP.

I don't really care for them. They look too much like any other modern GE diesel. Except that they lack the distinct GE "Chug." I really liked that.

Of course I'd take a "nasty" steam engine day!:D

Steamer for me any day as long as its in the early 20th Century.:D  Anything after that, I'm on for. These GEVO's look weird and just don't fit the railroad scene for me...they are ugly. :hehe:

My 2 cents.:)

Cheers,
Adam

There really isn't any thing sepcial in diesel. All of them made after the same model run the same. A steam locomotive made after the same design and model runs differntly, they may be made exactly the same as the previouse, but it will run differently. A steam engine is like a human being, it needs to be feed, & waterd. It lives and breaths, but it has a nasty temper if you don't make it happy. And yes, a diesel is extreamly boaring for me to look at, all they do is hummmmmmmm, and nothing more. A steam engine is way more powerfull, but it is less effeciant. It takes a good 35mph to reach maximum pulling force, and it can continue from there. A diesel automatically has a pulling force, but not as powerfull so they hook up another unit, and off it goes.
So let this be the first roar of the cannon.

I like em!

I love diesels! And really appreciate steam, don't worry.

I like the ES44ACs cuz they are more ecologically friendly. sorry bout this, but diesels are cleaner when it comes to steam.:hehe:

BOTH RULE EQAULLY.

I'm a EMD fan all the way,but I live besides a line and all i see is KCS SD40-2s,SD70MACs,AC44CWs,and SD70ACes.I rarely see a GEVO on the line. If I do see a GEVO,it is in primer. In my opinion the SD40-2 was the best loco ever made, and that beats a GEVO any day. Most of the new GEs look to much alike. The locomotive has a nice horn on it.

the gevo is better than older locos in a sence of advanced tech but i sure do love to see a good old steamer comin down the tracks. i used to love the steamers but i have started to like the gevos a little bit more becausse of its beautiful horn sound. but i do under stand why u steam and geep lovers like them so much!:) :) :) :):D : ::cool:  :) :) :D :

...overclocked...

 The ES series, as well as the Dash8, and Dash9 are the highest power rating available on the engine...maxed...overclocked..

That, is why they don't sound the same, as the old GE 7FDL engine.

Oh, by the way, I hear you need to bring corrugated paperboard with you, whilst you ride in the cab, to stop the dashboard from rattling!

works fine, last a long time, paint em green they won't rust. nothing earthshaking though, unless you're standing too close to the track. just another nice big powerful modern freight loco. looks arn't exactly a major design criteria thereof. i don't see anything particulary ugly about them. nor sensationally beautiful either.

in a way i think there an example of everything in certain parts of the world having to be way too big for anything other then a very minority of purposes.

not a critique of one particular design though, but rather of a whole cultural mentality. and the DO serve a useful purpose.

though more to the world we currently live in, then one more like i would prefer to.

=^^=

Hehe...

No matter what you all say, the fighting between steam and diesel is long over, and we (The diesel) won... :o

Anyhow, I think the GEVOs are cool, but really, ACs/Dash 9s/GEVOs are the same to me...

Actually they are starting to consider redesigning steam locos for the railroad. Making them more efficient because steam, if utilized correctly, can be much more efficient than diesel.

well u see so many of because they are a lot more improved than the older ge so many rr companys want to buy them because the older locos have problems and this loco has been made to improve those problems. they are also more fuel efficent than older locos. but i do to see a large amount of these locos on the csx route in my area. it would be nice to occasionly see an older unit!:) :)    :) :)
You, are Horribly wrong. Just because GE made this new fangled thing that gets better fuel economy, doesnt mean its a good locomotive. I could put a ALCo Century 630 up against a Gevo, and elminate the GEVO anyday. Older is better, because all the new GE's they look the same.. God, no wonder why UP likes em..
ALCos, and EMDs(older ones) are king, and always will be.
End of story.
