Erratic Graphics on T2009 with Windows 7???????????

Hi all,
I'm new to Trainz and after downloading a small driver scenario based on T2006, I decided to download T2009 as a digital download.

the download completed and installed and I was impressed with many of the features.

Unfortunatly, when I came to actually play the game in 'Driver' mode, in particular the "Garsdale" scenarios, the graphics were all over the place, the track wasn't visible and the loco and stock became transparent and then flicked back and forth from solid to transparent or just shadows.

I've updated all of my drivers and looked at what my system has in the way of hardware to run the game.

I am running Windows 7 HE, with service pack 1, I am on 64 bit, and my processor is @ 2.3Ghz

I am at a total loss as to the problem, I just don't seem to be able to do anything to rectify it, although I'm not the most proficient with PC knowhow.

I did read somewhere that you need to turn the graphics compression feature off but I just can't find where to do this.

Any help would be much appreciated as at the moment the game is pretty much unplayable.

The 2006 based driver scenario game I first downloaded runs perfectly, or did before I installed the 2009 version!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance for any help given

Chris :)

Hi Chris,

It's kind of lucky I've responded to your thread, as I'm the one who may hold the answer to that issue.

The one thing that concerns me though is that you have not registered your version of Trainz. This is essential.

Please visit https://www.auran.com/planetauran/SN_Enter_Serialnumber.php and fill in the form.

This is to make sure that it is not an illegitimate copy.

Shane

P.S. Welcome to the forums.

After you've registered, what graphics card has your system got and is the cpu a single core, dual or quad.
The solution isn't difficult, I'll let Shane guide you through.

I agree. Since I sorted out my site links, I can sort that one out as well.

Shane

EDIT: I will need to check on the permissions side as well.

Shane will be in his pit now, what graphics card have you and what is the build number (found bottom right when you launch trainz).

Hi there,

I'm not sure what graphics card I have, but the build number is as follows: Trainz Version 3 (Build 38411)

Hope this helps?

Chris ;)

Hi Chris,

I am now available to sort out your issue.

In terms of patches, you will need the following patch(es): (install these in order as shown)

http://download.ts2009.com/patch/38411_to_40040.exe
http://download.ts2009.com/Beta/40040_to_41844.exe (Note: your DirectX 9.0C files must be August 2009 or later to install this patch - see the General Trainz forum for my tutorial on how to update it)
http://download.ts2009.com/patch/41844_to_44653.exe (note: This is a major update, and as such is ~450MB)

If you get stuck installing the patches, I have a patching guide at http://trainz.shaneturner.co.uk/tutorials/index.php/home/patchingtutorial.

Your graphics card (as it's integrated) will cause you problems when attempting to use Content Manager. If you cannot access Content Manager using the Manage Content button on the Launcher, you will need to upgrade your graphics card if you can)

In terms of your graphics issues, visit http://trainz.shaneturner.co.uk/tutorials/index.php?page=black-textures-issue. This page is on my main tutorial website.

Shane

P.S. As you are using Windows 7, Trainz should be run as administrator. If you are not sure how to do this, see http://trainz.shaneturner.co.uk/tutorials/index.php?page=running-as-administrator.

Hi Shane,

thank you for your time and effort on my behalf with this problem.

I'm currently downloading patch number 3 (had to work today!!!!!), the first 2 went successfully!!!!! :)

One question, should I try the game again after the patches have been installed, or go directly to the graphics issue tutorial you kindly put up?

I'll report on progress here once everything has been done.

Thanks again, both to Shane and fran1

Chris :)

It's best to sort the patches first, then check if the problem is solved. If not, follow the tutorial.

Warning - the patch from 41844 to 44653 may take several hours to install.

Also note that once it's at build 44653, you will need to wait about 3-5 minutes after closing Trainz to allow it to quit fully.

Shane

Hi Shane,

Well all 3 patches are installed and I've switched to 'Run as Administrator'.

Unfortunatly, Trainz will not load at all now, after the launch screen, if I click start, I just get an error message, refering to requiring Direct X 9 (which I've installed as per your link), Update graphics card drivers (which are updated), etc

I'm not sure but everything went smoothly with the patch updates, maybe I've missed something else, so I call on your help yet again!!!! :(

Chris :)

You now need to check that the Trainz Options haven't changed. Click Options on the Launcher to check this.

The resolution needs to match your actual resolution, the bit depth needs to be 32, Hardware TL may need to be disabled if you have an Intel card (otherwise the box should be unticked).

It will also have set the display to open gl, try the dx option.
Sometimes I get the dx warning, trainz starts eventually after a few attempts.

Hi Shane,

Thanks a lot, all seems to be working as it should :)

I had to select the Direct X option as well.
Regards

Chris :)
