Hi all Anybody out there have S&P #700 4-8-4 to put on DS? If Mac or greg is reading this tell me what you would reccomend concerning more ram.. / video card for a Dell computer Duo Processer 2.20 ghz, 800fb.

Bob,
Not knowing what Dell PC you have and how old it is all I can say is that if it is possible to get your total RAM up to either 3 or 4 gigs, that will certainly help.
As for a video card, assuming that you currently have onboard graphic's, I'd check that you have a PCI-Express 16 slot on your motherboard.
If you have, I'd probably go for a mid range card like the Nvidia's GTX 260 or 9800 GTX. (Alot depends on your budget).
If you can afford a top end card, probably something like the Nvidia GTX 295, GTX 280 or AMD's 4870 x2. All are very good video cards...
Hope this helps. Happy Trainzing.
Cheers, Mac... ;)

If you have one of the Dell 530s, be very careful when buying a video card. The new double height cards will not fit. MY friend bought a 8800 GT and because of the location of the SATA plugs, the card would not seat into the slot. Also, the length of the card was a very tight fit.

Also the power supplies that Dell puts into those machines are not very powerful, most are only 300W.

Thanks for the reply. I Think My Computer is (2008) Inspiron 530s.
The problem is I don't enough to get in out of the Rain when comes to these new Gadgets.

Gidday Bob again,
Mouse84 brings up a very valid point that I shouldn't have over looked. (My appoligies). If you are going to update to one of the latest graphic cards, there's a very good chance you are also going to have to update your current power supply unit from what is probably a 300 - 400w unit to a 550 to 700w unit.
Once again, my oppoligies for over looking this issue, and many thanks to mouse84 for bringing it to my/our attention.

My only excuse is I got "held down" by some mates last night and they keeped pouring down my throat this liquid amber stuff till early morning. It was horrorable. (Gallons & gallons of beer, well maybe not gallon's & gallons but it was certainly pints & pints) !!! - Every half an hour I needed to come up for breath !!! :hehe:
We where celebrating the birth of a very close friends second child. Can't remember much after midnight - 1 am...
They took my car keys off me about 1.30 - 2am apparently... (don't you just wish you had mates like that)...

Getting on the computer this morning still half p_ssed is no excuse and I appoligies for only giving you 70% of what you really needed to know...
Hopefully we can get your Dell updated to a point where it runs Trainz's well.
(Please keep us up to speed with how Trainz's is running if you make some changes)....
Cheers Mac.

I might have mistyped. Is it a normal sized 530 or is it a Slimline 530s? It might be harder to find a low-profile card for the 530s.
