Editing config files

Returned...
Hello everyone.

What line do I need to edit to turn off steam on a locomotive? I would like to have a few static locomotives in the engine shed on my route. Can the config be re-edited should I wish to use a 'static' loco to pull trains?

Best wishes,
Padster

There are three locos on the DLS that I turned into unpowered ones.
49099:2472
49099:1502
49099:100017
They are aliased to the originals, config is changed to
engine 0
enginespec <kuid:-1:42004201>
These are all diesels which I used in scenarios I wrote.
Check them out.

I tried to edit the config file and the engine is already set to 0. The kuid is already set to the one you quoted too. Any help?

Best wishes,
Padster

If you want to edit config files you should Clone the item then alter the Clone, so that if you make a mistake you"ll still have a "clean version" of the original. Also remember that if you upload a route containg any edited content it"ll revert to its original setting as your altered content is not available on the DLS.

The config edits are unchangable within the game. If you want to reverse them you have to end the session go into cmp and reedit the config, committ it and in surveyor replace the old instance of the loco with a new copy as the old config is probably still stored in the session soup.

If you really want to turn them off and return them to active service during the game play you probably need a custom loco script. Which will turn the vehicle physics off and on - also particle effects if desired - under script and user control. Its not all that good though as the game will automatically turn the physics back on whenever another car or loco couples to it.
