Too much needs to be done, the boiler is a wreck. Its too expensive, the plan is to just cosmetically restore the locomotive, and put it on display where 20 was

I'll be darned then.

Hopefully 20 actually gets finished with restoration. A running 4-6-0 will be much fun at the CRRM :D

I love to see an engine restored, whether it be a Cosmetic or a full restoration. Btw, the locomotive and cars still sitting on a bridge in colorado as a monument, how is their condition?

prr k4 1361.

He means that's not relevant.

And to answer your question from many other irrelevant places, the reason 1361 isn't at Strasburg is, Steamtown sucks up all the state's grant money for railroads, so why wouldn't their steam loco go there too?

To add to simulatortrain's response, another reason is because the 1361 project only needed tools. Steamtown provided the tools and a roundhouse stall, and that was it. The Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum (I THINK that's what it's called) had the expertise ready to take on the project. It quickly became obvious they weren't prepared for 1361, but expertise nonetheless.

If the engine had gone to Strasburg, the state would have been paying for STRASBURG to rebuild the engine, when they wanted to do the work themselves. This is not a wise idea financially, so to Scranton it went.

On a similar note, a friend of mine working on Long Island 4-6-0 #39 (which is actually at Strasburg undergoing restoration) told me that the cost is expected to be two MILLION dollars. I dread to think how much it would cost to rebuild 1361 at Strasburg, but maybe a figure of THREE million isn't a bad guess.

To say the least, that amount of money could be going to better things. Say, how much is the estimate to rebuild EBT 14 again?

well if PA sent 1361 to strasburg it would be back in steam. and the estimate to rebuild EBT 14 would be at 1,0000:)

DP...listen.. First STOP stealing the Information I post. Second, Steamtown has the best Standard Gauge shops in the USA, if not the 3rd best in the World(The best Shops on a NG line belongs to the D&SNG), so They knew what they were doing by sending it to Steamtown. Third,

PLEASE STOP POSTING RANDOM UNEEDED IRREVELANT INFORMATION NO ONE CARES ABOUT!

if it has a relation to the topic, by all means post it, But please, it eats up bandwidth for those on Dialup.
