DX10 for XP

Hey, I'm just wondering if there is any advantage to using DirectX 10 on Windows XP (there is a port in which I am confident.) Supposedly, it makes a considerable difference in MS Flight Simulator X (which, some claim, was really designed to use DX 10 anyway.) I don't know if the difference will be as dramatic (if at all) on TS.

Any thoughts?

Any DirectX 10 ported to Windows XP is not the full and real thing, no matter what. DirectX 10 and 11 were made for Vista and 7 only. Any version of it for Windows XP is either botched or a virus.

Trainz code makes calls to Directx 9 it doesn't know how to call to Directx 10 so no difference.

You might want to do a little more research on that one.

The DirectX 10 “preview” in FSX is nothing more than that, a preview. It was an afterthought and barely makes any improvement in graphic effects or performance.

FSX’s game engine didn’t even take advantage of DirectX 9 properly let alone DirectX 10.

If you click on the link to the project's home page you would see that the project has been dead since January 2008.

And as far as FSX, like the above poster, pretty much everything I've heard about DX10 and FSX was bad. And while I know there's at least one site out there that has a couple of comparison pics that make DX10 look really nice, that DX10 pic, as I understand it, wasn't an actual screenshot but an artistic render that, IIRC, was shown before the game was actually even released. (And thus also was made before FSX actually had DX10 support.)

Make sure you have Direct X9 from Aug.09 too or you won't be able to patch 09 to the latest build. I found that out yesterday while patching 09 to the latest patch.

It is always recommended that you run the latest DirectX update, which now is the February 2010 release –

Thanks I didn't know they had a newer one out this month, was just going by Auran's statement at the Dev Site. I wonder if the patch will recognize the new Direct X9 though.
