Drive Rod Spike on 0-6-0 Bogies

Suddenly, all 6 of my 0-6-0 switchers have a spike sticking out of the end of the drive rod. Bogey-2 on most 0-6-0 switchers use Shunter M 50371 51in 36frame bogey,<kuid2:46075:50371:6> which aliases Shunter M 50371,<kuid2:44797:50371:7>. Both of these kuids have been updated to build 2.7. Part of that update was to convert the .pm mesh to .im using PEV's PM2IM. Unfortunately this creates an artifact which looks like a spike sticking out of the end of the drive rod. Until PEV can get a fix for this problem you need to get a copy of the bogey with the .pm mesh file.

Bob,
Try using the PM2IM2006 that I included in the latest download...

This does the conversion a different way and should not give this problem.

I'm working on another version of PM2IM to solve this. It's nearly ready.. more testing to do yet..

PEV- A Question

Are you suggesting that all participants in the Download Station Cleanup use PM2IM2006 for kuids that have animated elements or should we wait for your final solution?

Bob,

Whenever a conversion of an animated object fails using PM2IM, then the PM2IM2006 is the solution, at present.

PM2IM is the better option if it works. It makes more efficient animations.

Unfortunately I have been unable to find any explanation of how the animation base should be re-constructed from the mesh data. My method works most times, but there are meshes out there that are trashed by my calculations. The shovelling coalman mesh is a prime example.

My "final solution" (your words not mine) works the same way as PM2IM2006, but with more features added to duplicate those available in the present PM2IM version that uses the TrainzMeshImporter.

Ok! I have been reading all this, and I have the same problem, but all the versions of the 0-6-0 loco I have meshs are .im, and I find that the mesh for bogey 44797:50371:1 is also .im, but the mesh for bogey 46075:50371:6 is .pm.

Now the UP 0-6-0 which works has the spikes, the NYC original that I got to work, also has the spikes, and ATSF also. I never got a chance to check the others, because when I deleted those lines to stop the wheels from turning in place, which worked, I lost the wheels on all of the other 0-6-0 as well as the ATSF. UP and NYC both seen to be OK except for the spikes. The others appear in Railyard with out any drivers. They all use the 46075:50371:6 Shunter_M_50371 51in 36 Frame bogey with the .pm mesh, and alias 44787:50371:1 bogey with the .im mesh. Can anyone explain this.

I have 12 0-6-0s, most of which have this problem. Those that have the spiked main driver use Shunter M 50371 51in 36frame bogey,<kuid2:46075:50371:6> which aliases to Shunter M 50371,<kuid:44797:50371>. The latest version of that kuid is Shunter M 50371,<kuid2:44797:50371:1>, a trainz build 2.7 dated 13 Feb 2011 and has a .im mesh.

I think this version was created as part of the download station clean up. kuid2:44797:50371:1 was created from kuid:44797:50371 using PM2IM to convert the .pm mesh to .im. Unfortunatedly, the version of PM2IM at that time had problems converting meshes with animations, hence the spike.
I used PEV's PM2IM2006.exe to convert the .pm mesh in kuid:44797:50371 to .im and copied it to kuid2:44797:50371:1 replacing the existing .im mesh. The spike is gone and the 0-6-0s work.

I will try to find the .pm version of 44797:50371 to convert, but the .im version is what was downloaded as a dependence. That still leaves the .pm version of 46075:50371:6 which should be converted also. I have the program pm2im, but have never used it, and I don't know how to use it. Buy the way I am not using 2006, Iam using 2009, should I use the pm2im2006 mewer version?

On checking my files I find the version of pm2im I have is V.2.1 18, may 2011, and the install package is pm2im2 not 2006 is this the correct one?

Have you tired using the drive bogey that I used on my version of the locomotive, kuid [FONT=Verdana, Arial]69871:2061 ?

It's on the Download Station. Comes built-in with TS12.

As noted in PEV's post #7 above, the PM2IM2006.exe was an interim solution for old meshes that have animations. His newer PM2IM (ver 2.01) should work ok but I haven't tried it. Use the new version to convert the .pm mesh in 44797:50371. If this doesn't solve the spike problem, post back here.

You have it back words, his PM2IM.exe is the old version, and the PM2IM2006.exe is the new which is v.2.01 it however doesn't have the 2006 after it in the file, it is PM2IM2. I have it and have been using all eveing. It corrected the spikes I have 10 trains with drivers that will not run in driver. The other file kuid2:46075:50371:6 is a .pm which I can not find the file to change it to a .im, and I am not sure it will do any good with the wheels not running. First they ran in place when the train was not moving, after deleting that line, they stopped period. I am so pissed it isn't funny!!

At this point I am willing to try anything. I like the looks of the drivers that are suppose to work with it, the generic version work fine, but I don't like the looks of the wheels, or I would try using them. Since there are no leading or trailing bogeys why is there three sets of bogey kuid's?

You have three bogies because a.bog0 and a.bog1 are used for invisible bogie kuid:-10:149 and the main steam driver bogie is on a.bog2. This was the original way to do this prior to the changed bogie system that came with recent versions.

What you have is correct, don't change anything.

Just tried to down load, but they are for 2010, which should be backward compatable with 2009, but they must not be since it will not allow download. I don't have ts 2010 yet.

Try downloading it as a cdp using FTP.. Then loading it into ts2009 using Content Manager.. open it for edit and change the build number to your version (by editing the config.txt in notepad)

Tried downloading again but it would not allow me to search for 2012 items. Did manage to find kuid2:69871:2062:1 in 2010 downloads used it inplace of kuid2:46075:50371:6, and deleted the Alias Kuid. Now have all 11 0-6-0's working with no spikes and good looking wheels. Thanks for your help, Gordon

P.S. Have just purchased TS 2010, and downloaded, is there any service packs that must be loaded before I run it for the first time?

Looks like I can answer my own question, when I installed TS 2010 the version is already 43434, so all the service patches have been installed in the download. I need only to install the SP3 hotfix to bring it to 44088. I will do that some night while I am sleeping. So far everything seem ok, but I have only looked it over, and have not tryed to build anything yet.
