Dream on

Yup. it says 35 lbs, also says the size is 18x8x12. If that's inches, it is :o you'll need to do a bit of panel beating on the old case to get it to fit, it'll be a snug fit won't it.

I am saving my money up for one of these super computers ... they promised me the metric system in 1963, and a Moon Jump Off Base by 2001 ... Still waiting.

I can't wait till there are thousands of choices of laptops, all with super graphics ... but as of today there are only a choice few to choose from, especially at Big Box Stores (which usually have to special order the top end PC).

What's this world coming to when you can't trust the specs on Amazon? :hehe: 35lbs, LOL

That card is not for running games and Trainz would run much slower if at all.

I know. It was a joke, but I'd still like one.

It was Amazon, not eBay. Amazon is usually pretty good about that sort of thing.

Actually a couple of months ago I ordered 2 kits of Gskill Ripjaws X RAM at a cost of £45 each. To my surprise on the "my account" page the details showed not only the RAM but "the box contains" then the details of a Corsair Modular PSU to the value of £95! It was obviously a mistake but when my 2 lots of RAM arrived minus the 2 PSU's I phoned Amazon to complain but the cerebrally challenged rep who answered could only repeat, like a scratched record, "you can return the RAM if it is faulty". I persisted for a while but gave up.

This isn't even a video card. In fact there isn't even a "head" on it to plug in a display. The Tesla is a card made with GPUs, but the GPUs are used as multiple multi-core processors instead of handling graphics. The reason is the GPU is much faster than the standard CPU, and can handle true parallel processing and very fast mathematical functions much fast than a standard CPU.

Even if you won the lottery and plugged one of these things into your computer, you'd never have a use for it with a game or for every day use. The reason is there is no software written for it that we can use. This card requires special libraries and special code to be integrated into specific programs such as high-end cad and engineering programs.

Now some of this technology has found its way into mainstream use with SLI technology along with the multiple GPU cards. The Tesla chip is now the standard chip used by NVidia, meaning that the underlying technology is being used, but not in the same way as the Tesla card. They are cool though and too bad we couldn't have something like this.

I was reading an article about a HP laptop they were reviewing. It has an Nvidia Quatro with 4 GB ram. The laptop was worth about $6400. The video card is about a $2100 upgrade.

That should run trainz pretty good. Yes it is should be classified as a portable workstation.
Kenny

Yes and no. The Quadro cards aren't necessarily meant for programs like Trainz. The cards share some of the same technology, sometimes the same chipset, but they have special hardware and BIOS in them that handles CAD and 3d rendering differently which can cause performance issues for us when we use them as regular video cards.

These portable workstations are nice, but you're better off with a game-capable machine which would be similar such as Dell's Alienware laptops. http://www.alienware.com/ When all kitted up, the machines can cost as much as one of those workstations! :)
