I hope I have posted this in the correct place. :o

Can anyone help please!

Being completely new to Trainz Sim 2009, I am trying to download a loco (Evening Star) from the free listing with no success at the moment.

I would be grateful if someone could guide me through the procedure how to do this in 'laymens' terms .

Many thanks

Hi Jordon,

Welcome to the Trainz Forums.

Here is a link to the loco you are trying to download.

http://www.auran.com/TRS2004/DLS.php

Please note that this loco was created for TRS2004, so it may or may not work in TS2009. Someone else may offer more help to you in that respect.

I must say that your post is mature and polite. This will help you in future requests for help from the Trainz Community.

Hope this helps you.

Regards and have fun,

Jordon,

Easiest way to download with TS2009 is to use Content Manager (CM2). Just click "Content" on the Trainz Launch menu and when it loads....
  • Select the "All" tab.
  • Enter "Evening Star" into the search field in the left pane.
  • Wait a couple of seconds (or click the "Apply" button) to start the search.
  • You should get a list (in the right pane) of matching items. The icons will show you what/where they are.
  • To download amd install (ones that have a [DS] icon) click on the asset(s) in the right pane and drag them to "Download helper" part of the left pane and click the "Start" button.
The most up to date user guide for CM (that I am aware of) is here:

http://www.trainzclassics.co.uk/ > Guides > CMP User Guide.

It's for an older version but still holds good for most things.

Edit: I should say that Content Manager only downloads items from the Auran Download Station (there are loads). There are lots of other sites that have content for download but you have to download these as files - Trainz .cdp files (a kind of specialist zip file) - you then install these into Trainz using the "Import CDPs" options in CM2.

If you need any more help (which we all do from time to time!) then just post again here or in a new thread if it's on a new subject. There is a support section on the forum for 2009.

Welcome to Trainz !!

just a warning for ya jordan, from one TS2009 user to another, CM2 sometimes doesn't show everything. I have trouble getting 04 and older content to show up sometimes. if you find an item you like but can't get it to show up in CM2, just go into the DLS, find its posting, then click on the "Download page" button. There should be a button on there called "Download FTP" it will download that file as a CDP.

hope this helps you. welcome, and happy trainzing!!

The loco in question is BR 9f Evening Star,<kuid2:101839:1031:3> which is the latest version of three that have been made by the author. I downloaded the loco into TS2009 and found it has a texture error in the loco's cab kuid which prevents it from being usable. The fix for the texture error requires the use of PEV's PM2IM utility.
To download the loco used CM2 Search Action Panel and set Name = BR 9f. Right click BR 9f Evening Star,<kuid2:101839:1031:3> and select Download to put it in the Download Helper Panel. Then click Start. After all supporting files download (about 50 of them) make sure to commit if it doesn't happen automatically. After committing you'll find that 9f cab shell green,<kuid2:101839:52038:1> has Error: Texture 'cabtexture2-bump.texture' is missing or could not be loaded for mesh '9fcabshell.im'. To fix it you have to open it for Edit in Explorer and run it thru PM2IM.exe.
