Downloading into 09/10

Always needing help
Hi,

When i download from the download station it opens up 09's CM,and installs there.Even if i have 10's CM open on desktop

How would i make it install to 10's CM ?

I have Trainz 09 on one hard drive and Trainz 10 on another, both in the same computer.

thanks
Brad

Hi Brad,

This is a matter of priority of file associations on your windows OS.

Currently your OS is telling whoever needs its services that .cdp's are assciated to your T9 CM.

So next command from you, master of your OS, will be to tell it to associate .cdp's to T10 CM·. How?

The simplest way:
  • Find a .cdp.
  • Right click on it and check contextual menu. -->
  • Choose "Open with..." -->
  • "Select default application..." -->
  • If your CM3 is not listed there, find it in your /auran/ts2010/bin folder. It goes by the name of ContentManager.exe
  • Upon opening that first .cdp with CM3, the rest of them will follow that command. If not, you aren't master and commander of your OS and should report it to your higher ranks. :hehe:
Hope it helps, and also hope it doesn't make you hesitate or mislead... not my intention. ;)

The commanding over OS side of Alberte

Thanks for the help..but....im not the master and commander of my OS.

Just goes back to 09's CM2 not CM3.

Its a traitor and needs to be shot....

Any other ideas..?

Turn off all your Trainz applications and software, then open TS2010 CM3.3. Double clicking a .cdp file should show up in the Download Helper Action Panel.

I have transferred built-in content from 2009 to 2010 by saving from 2009 as a CDP, then importing that CDP into 2010 using CM.

Perhaps a long way round, but it could deal with the content that has already installed in 2009 until you find an alternative solution.

Hi Ray,

thats what ive been having to do.

Like you say "it's along way around doing things."

When i want something for Trainz 2010 from the DLS i'm having to download to Trainz 2009's CM and install it, then make a CDP,save that to a file , then close 2009 CM and open 2010 CM then install the CDP from file to 3.3CM....PHEW..:hehe: .

thinking about taking Trainz 2009 of my system, but seems a shame to do that.

o well,if there is'nt away ,i might just have to.

thanks for your response to my need for help.

Is the trouble when you double-click on a CDP file, it opens '09, or when you use the trainz:// protocol to build up a list of assets and download all at once? I ask because the two things are handled completely differently.

I find that by using 'download page' rather than 'download helper' after going to the DS opening page and selecting an asset, I can save the download to a folder of my own choice (I call mine 'FTPs to scan' so that I can check for malware), then use CM in 2010 or 2009 as required to actually import the asset into the program. Of course this does not deal with dependencies although these can be checked in CM.

Incidentally, having downloaded some assets in this way from the Trainz Classics site, I find that double-clicking the CDP saves them to both 2009 and 2010. Another quirk?

hi ray,

i use 'download page' in the download station ,as anything else sends me to a blank internet page.
by clicking on the download page it puts items straight into trainz 2009 content manager 2.(not asking to send to a save file)

thankyou anyway for your help.

Brad

You will only get the save file option if you use Download via FTP - as for the version of Content Manager used, it normally uses whichever was the last used (in admin mode if using Windows Vista/7)

Hi Shane,

i'm using Win 7 64-bit like yourself.
Downloading using FTP also sends me to a blank web page.
download page is all i can use.

Brad

Can I check which version of Internet Explorer you have? I know the latest one (9) has some strange quirks with things like that.
