door animation

Blender, GMAX, 3D Canvas or 3DS?

You'll need a script I usually find an existing one and use that renaming the doors to match.

Cheerio John

i'm using gmax the trainz creation studio, I made the doors with the train in sketchup, but i want to know how to make the doors open and close

Are you asking how to do the animation in Gmax?

Although I've not done any animated doors yet, I believe that you'll have to create an event file in Gmax for the animation of the doors before exporting. The animation referenced in the event file is initiated in Trainz through a script as John pointed out.

Of course you can make an animation in GMax.. don't be frightened of it..It's really quite easy, especially a simple one like doors (swinging or sliding)

There are some tutorials on various animations at Phil Campbell's World of Trainz
http://www.worldoftrainz.com/Pages/Tutorials.htm

Have a go at those to find out how they work.. A couple of details are very important; if you don't adhere to the instructions you may end up with an animation the works in GMax but not in Trainz.

Read the CCGTC or look at some built-in content for the naming conventions for the door animations and their config.txt requirements.

If you get the naming right, NO SCRIPT is required. For standard doors and passenger sets all script coding is already done for you.

Could you point me at the documentation for this as I have some animated doors that aren't as smooth as they could be floating around at the moment.

Thanks John

G'day John,

The simplest thing I can do is recommend that you look at my QR RM55 rail motor set. The trailer car is a good example.. It's on the DLS, <kuid:329364:1262>

I made the doors for each side a separate mesh with its own animation. So they are not part of the default mesh.

The names for the mesh-table containers are the key to making it work.

Also, if I remember correctly, I just copied all this from the BR MK1 SK built-in. It's included in TS2010, <kuid:-3:10074>

Have fun with it.. and keep up the great work you are doing with content.

I'll have to play I was looking at one of the other coaches that uses slightly different names.

Thanks John
