domsarto's DS road 01

I've been using the above asset series, and they are just what I was looking for. However, a slight (very slight) problem. The traffic seems to plough through the road instead of riding on it. Is there an easy fix for this. It isn't critical, just wondered.

Ken,

These roads are cambered, the cambering is realistic but does have a disadvantage in that "Carz" don't follow the camber so one wheel is always going to be digging into the tarmac more than the other whatever you do with the splines. If I remember correctly the "DS Road 02" assets are level (i.e. not cambered) but the range of available assets is much smaller than road 01. Lowering the road splines on either type does not eliminate the traffic digging in to the surface. I believe the basic way Trainz handles traffic changed in TS2009 and later and these assets were build 2.0, (that is TS2004).

You might want to take a look at the roads described in this thread: http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?93243-New-road-assets-on-their-way-to-the-DLS these roads dont have the sinking traffic problem and they can be freely re-skinned etc. if you want a darker tarmac appearance.

It's worse than just the camber, carz sit about 0.2m into the surface. As you say it's down to changes on how these things work, and its not fixable except in the original mesh.

Have as go with either Itareus' roads or mine, as these are designed for the correct traffic heights.

Paul

Paul has a very large range of road assets which are great, especially for the more modern urban road scenes, included in this range are some separate road markings which you would need to use since my assets are all plain roads.

If you would like to use a mixture of both Paul's and mine then a few "transition" assets would be needed as they are built to slightly different standards - no great problem for me to knock these transition assets up. You could use Paul's texture to create your own versions of my assets (subject to obtaining the necessary permissions for its use before releasing of course).

No problem with anyone using my road texture, just acknowledge it in the description.

My road range actually includes splines suitable for rural and urban roads, all built to the current UK standards, and including a range of different traffic speeds.

@ Chris and Paul:

Many thanks for replying. I've DL'd all I can find on the DLS, and am looking them over now. So far, they look just the job although I'll have to have a good rummage to sort out the best combinations. They do look to be excellent as they are, but the temptation to try a bit of reskinning might tempt me at a later date. It always amazes me that there is a such a range of good stuff out there, just have to know where to look, or which creators are most likely.

Anyway, once again, thanks and best regards,

Ken
