Dome, Sweet Dome

Still a good bit of work to do, and the rest of the cars are quickly repainted stand-ins, but it's rolling...

OMG. This will be a Godsend for those of us who long to create the Rainbow Era. :udrool: :udrool: :udrool:

Payware, I wager?

Guys, it's under freeware announcements ;)

Magicland, those look FANTASTIC! Definitely can't wait!

Recommendation here, most midwest railroads(namely IC, perhaps others) painted the ends of the dome to reduce heat...maybe you could do that with these. I'll try to find which others did it :)

A dome car may or may not show up as freeware. This particular one is slated for the "North Coast Limited", which, believe it or not, has been in the planning stages since long before the "Broadway Limited" or the "20th Century Limited" were conceived. My early attempts at a dome car either ran afoul of Trainz alpha Z buffer bug or ended up WAY too poly heavy for those early versions of Trainz. Checking my reference sources, I've got to change the seat colors (should be brown in the car, and aqua in the dome), and of course, as this is the coach version of the dome, I've still got to make NP's sleeper domes, but things are rolling along, finally. Hmm... if I stretch the dome compartment, a GN "Great Dome" shouldn't be too difficult. Do I hear "Empire Builder" too? Run that baby up over Maria's pass...

Just for fun...

Just put a full dome on the dome coach and threw a GN coach skin on it. Not as easy as it sounds, as the dome coach is 15'10", and the full dome is only 15'6" high, the center roof section is wider, there's one less row of panes of glass on each side, etc..., but it gives a slight impression of how it would look.
While I'm doing "just for fun" stuff...

Not my model, so I can't distribute it, but I'm betting I can replicate it with a lot less polys (this was made in sketchup and imported into Max) using this as a "blueprint".

Noooooo. That's so impressive, too bad it's not for trainz and too hi-poly. Even if it WAS for Trainz, my computer would spit, sputter and die.:o :hehe:

Is this thread a Simpsons reference?

The domes look simply beautiful. Finally, a standard dome car you can stick your head in :p
