Does WBE 2009 Make Your Computer Slow?

I just got WBE 2009, my computer is somewhat new and does not have much on it at all. I'm using vista and installed the game and the service pack but it seems slow, like when I'm driving it seems like it skips or pauses constantly, anyone know of this?

What are your computer specifications? What does Trainzdiag report? trainzdiag.exe should be located in the bin folder inside the TS09 folder. Run it and post the results back here.

Not knowing your computer spec's, it hard for anyone to know what the problem is. Maybe you have your Trainz settings to high.
If you have change your settings, try re-setting them to the original default setting...
If that doesn't improve things, try turning some of the settings down further (particularly draw distance & detail) and see if you start to get better frame rates. Experiment...
Try switching from Open GL to Direct X (or visa versa). See if that makes any difference. Try running a less detailed route to see if you are able to get good frame rates with your current settings.
Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card. Make sure you have atleast 3gigs of RAM. Good luck...
Cheers, Mac...

I cannot find any trainzdiog or anything like that. IN my Trainz folder there is Launch Trainz, Uninstall or go online.

Here are my specifications:
Specifications:
Processor: Intel ® Core™2 SPU T5200 @ 1.60 Ghz 1.60 GHz
Memory (RAM): 2.00 GB
System Type: 32-bit Operating System

Looks fine so far... what graphics card/chipset are you using? I imagine you're using an OEM computer (a computer from i.e. HP, Dell, etc.). You can consult the manufacturer's website to find out what you're using.

I will check on the card, I ran the test, the only things to come up with a Warning were Video Drivers Age: 25 months old update, Vertex Shaders: version 1.1 (DirectX Failure), Spherical Environment Mapping (DirectX Failure), Vertex Buffers (DirectX Failure)

Any ideas?

Yes, it fails to start because as TrainzDiag points out, DirectX is not functioning properly. Perhaps just an install of the latest DirectX is all it will take to get you up and runing (pun intended :) )

It would be wise to check for any updated video drivers, either form the computer manufacturers web site, or the video "board" manufacturers web site. (ATI, Nvidia, etc...)

Hope this all helps,
Lenny

Video Drivers Age: 25 months
Goodness. You should really check for and download newer drivers.

Vertex Shaders: version 1.1 (DirectX Failure), Spherical Environment Mapping (DirectX Failure), Vertex Buffers (DirectX Failure)
If I were you I would reinstall DirectX, latest version. Still, it would help greatly if we knew what your graphics card/chipset was, and your operating system.

Cheers.

Edit:
now when I try to turn it on using DirectX it fails to start.
What were have here is a fine example of a schroedin bug (well, almost)!

Ok found some infor.... Video Card: Generic PnP Monitor on Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family. Does this help anyone to give me advice?

Also just wanted to say thanks to everyone, huge train fan and really appreciate you helping a not so computer educated guy out here.

I take it this is a laptop we're talking about here from the specs given?

For starters is your CPU: 1.60ghz isn't all that fast, especially for a program like Trainz, though it is dual core that still isn't going to help with a base clock speed like that.

RAM: 2.00GB not bad, Vista 32-bit however will take on average around 1GB of system RAM. So you're leaving about half your system RAM for Trainz, not great but not bad.

Video card: To be perfectly honest even with up-to-date drivers it won't help the fact you have an onboard integrated video chipset. The problem here also is that the video chipset is probably borrowing system RAM to make up for the lack of dedicated RAM. This has two nasty side effects. 1. It takes away from your system RAM, 2GB - 1GB (Vista) - xxxMB (video card) = 0-768MB RAM for Trainz which at that point is seriously on the thin side. Side effect 2. Using system RAM as VRAM slows down your computer, simply there is more for the CPU to process, in addition to normal tasks it also has to feed the memory shared by the video chipset. VRAM is also quite a bit faster than your DDR2 System RAM.

Hard Drive: I am assuming this is a laptop, but if it is the hard drive is also a bottleneck. Most laptops ship with either 4200 or 5400RPM hard drives to save on battery life, the downside is at those speeds they have a hard time feeding data fast enough for the CPU, so the CPU ends up waiting for more information.

The only thing you can do is take every performance slider and knock it down to the lowest setting, even then performance will probably still be skippy.

Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset
Just as I expected.

Um, because it says mobile it also becomes clear you are more-than-likely using a laptop. Hate to tell you, but you're going to have a lot of difficulty using Trainz with such a weak chipset. It'll run, but expect to have a very low average FPS.

Edit: Pretty much what GP_38-2 said.

RAM: 2.00GB not bad, Vista 32-bit however will take on average around 1GB of system RAM. So you're leaving about half your system RAM for Trainz, not great but not bad.

So what I'm getting from this is that I'm pretty much screwed... Even if I do turn the sliders down I'm going to have a slow RPS. So what I'm guessing is everyone here is running Trainz on a desktop? If i continue to build my layout will I be able to eventually transfer it onto a desktop?

I'm running 2009 on a laptop, it is slower then I would like, but for now, till I get my new desktop it will satisy me :)

You will be able to move over anything you make when you do get a desktop, so there is hope in your future.

Perhaps to maximize your fun and FPS, take your computer offline, turn off ALL unnecessary items you have runing in your notification area (where the clock is) such as 3rd party firewall, anti-virus (if using Norton you can set it off till you do a reboot) any messaging items, etc. They all should turn themselves back on with a reboot, or a right-click as needed.

One other thing that may help some, is to try swapping betweent DirectX, assuming you do ge t it to work, and OpenGL. One or the other may give you a bit more speed.

Hope this helps,
Lenny
