I was looking around for some ideas for a new project. I decided to try my hand at the West Side Lumber Company Railroad.

Well, I just have one problem. I don't like the way it came out, but can't figure out why I don't like it. Here is a screenshot of a part of the route. Tell me what you don't like about it, and what I should change.

Thanks,
JRT

The track looks a bit odd. Too pristine I suppose. Is there any rugged looking non-ballasted track? I think the terrain and such looks great.

Edit: Could you post a few more screenshots?

I really don't like it for some reason. I am going to try to find some other grass to use, maybe that is why I don't like it.

Hey JRT, I actually like the screenshot. Great to see that you have started to pioneer into native mode NG. Keep up the work.

Thanks Even.

Ok, I got it the way I like it now. Turns out what I did not like about it was the grass. Now I just need to work on the landscape and track.

I like it to. I think the thing thats bothering you is the the track kind of looks like it floating (i know its not), but it does look that way. It just needs something to anchor it to the ground its on. I would try a ground texture that a mid tone between the dirt color and the dark brown of the track.

I understand why you did it that way because in the photo you cant realy see any ballast, but the track in the picture is just barely lighter than the ground. The track you had to use in trainz is much darker. So your going to have to trade off a bit.

My two cents worth anyway.

Note: The green trees in the far background are there because I did not want to take a picture that has an all blue background.

Thanks, the other track to me was to big. I found out that is was to big! Coming in at a gouge size of 42" when the West Side was 3ft and I like the color of this track better.

The rails & ties on the current track don't look right. Keep looking for better track though, a landscape like that deserves a good looking track.

That looks like a good track, but I am looking for a track that is full 3D (With out ballast).

Thanks,
JRT

Here are some more images of the route, tell me what you think of them.
