DLS: Noteworthy downloads?

Hi all, I have a general question for all of you.

Given that the DLS is closing to all without an FCT in September, and that I have no intention of getting an FCT (and I will not entertain any suggestions to do so), this means that the DLS will no longer be accessible to me. This is bad news, but let's not get into that. The point is, there's lots of great content on the DLS that will be lost forever if I don't download it before September. Now I've already downloaded a LOT of content from the DLS, but I'm sure I only have a tiny fraction of what's on the DLS.

So my question to you all is this: what content would you suggest I download from the DLS before its closing to the free world in September? What content seems "noteworthy" or "must-have" to you? I ask for information, and to give others who will not be paying to use the DLS similar information, so we can make the most of what time we have left with the DLS.

Thanks for all your help.

Download all the routes you would like would be my suggestion. Most route builders use good content, as i have TS 2010 it wont be a problem for me though !

Off the top of my head, I would recommend rolling stock from majekear, any scenery from Dinorius Redunicus (a true artist), the YARN roads and freeways and intersections by Maddy25, the superb JVC trees and grasses, and bridges from Ben Dorsey. That is just a few of the truly talented creators out there though.

Since you're here in the US, you can do a simple search, limiting locale to Northern America. Or you can do what I have done from time to time and do a search based on names you know. I greatly enhanced by vehicle fleet by looking for "Ford", "Chevy", "Mercedes", "Chrysler" and "BMW." Likewise, for businesses, looking under familiar names netted me nice renditions of McDonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Arby's, Wendy's, Texaco, Shell, Wal-Mart, Sears, Toys 'R' Us, Burlington Coat Factory, Barnes & Noble, Starbucks, IKEA and many others.

But I also agree with paul502....a good way to get new assets is by grabbing routes, cuz you'll end up also downloading all of the dependencies, which is bound to be a ton of stuff you never had.

The DLS will still be available to download content for free. It's just that 04/06 users will have to have an FCT to access it.

That said:

Reading & Northern
Any of philskene's awesome routes (though I believe Intencity is TS2010-only)
NEC
The various NJ Transit/NJT/Conrail routes available from TPR and Trainz Commuter Rail (I'm mentioning this because you will need dependencies from the DLS.)
JFE's Monorail Demo 2
Sen City 2006
caddylar's and neilsmith749's routes
Modula City 2004 (not sure if this is on the DLS, as it as included with TS2010, and I just finished installing Modula City 3.6.)

Having a FCT may not insure DLS download ability after Sept 1st. The DLS will not be fixed "IF" security issues occur...the DLS may be inaccessable to all 04/06 users...the word "MAY, and IF" should be noted. Fortunately 3rd party sites are trying to prepare, and if all fails...others with large complete "Local" files may be able to send assets and CDP's to you in the event that the DLS is unusable.

I purposely bought a One Year FCT ($19.20+ $0.60 foriegn transation fee) and downloaded each and every railcar and loco known to US and Canada. I am backing up my 62 Gb "Local" file in case of catastrophic PC failure. I now have thousands of Paintshed railcars that need the default Auran paper doll cutout trucks replaced with Realsquash, bettendorf, and arch bar, animated trucks. I think if I strung all my locos and cars together, the train would be over 10 miles long.

No need to fear...as long as people can save assets and routes as CPD's...Trainz will survive even in the event of Auran's eventual demise, years and decades from now.

I have the YARN stuff and most of Dinorius Redundicus's stuff as well. I'll have to check out majekear and Ben Dorsey. I'm in desperate need of better scenery.

Great idea, thanks!

The problem with that is my TRS2006 is on another computer (without internet), meaning I can't use the Download Helper. In other words, it would take a very long time.:hehe:

Yeah, and I'm an 06 user.

fct onlt cost about $30 a year... that not much,, at all

As I said in the first post, I have no intention of purchasing an FCT, no matter how cheap it is. Plus, I don't have any money at the moment.:hehe:

A very odd way to do things! Why not put it on the computer with the net:confused: You could always transfer content across, though that still seems a unnecessary wast of time & effort. I assume there's a good reason for the way you do things .

I was under the impression that an FCT did guarantee you DLS access - it just might not be through download helper / CMP. FTP access at least will continue.

I'd add buildings (and trees) by DMDrake to that list. He has a huge range of older US buildings that are essential for many US routes...

Personally I'm still going to get Mb 300/400 of assets by, shoves - mostly old English buildings, RickySykes - horses with wagons, bendorsey - YVRR, bnsf50 - oil related stuff and some rolling stock, some pommie sky and some stuff not yet collected from bobsanders. Oh, olso some construction kit and lorries from alien3.

Hehe well if I could have TRS on my computer with Internet, I would. Trouble is I had TRS installed with plenty of DL'd stuff on the other computer long before I ever got my own computer with Internet. Plus, this computer (the one with Internet) is too slow to handle TRS. It would work, but it would be lag central. My other computer is much faster.

Got my last Route(s) from DLS for 06 - NG Europe 1 to 5 from Darkdan, this is excellent, highly recommended. (Be prepared to hunt for some content though)

Last Buildings - 125 Mb Old English from shoves, complete Towns and Villages with most kind of buildings and shops you can think of, also some nice people to go with that.

I wonder, is there any must have Locos or Rolling Stock out there, time is very quickly running out.
