DLS downloading

Secondly, it may well have been unprecedented demand for Trainz Driver that has affected things, and I do know that Softlayer (who provides the servers that N3V are using) haven't had the best reputation for reliability.

Maybe, but as others have said they are a professional software company, not a bunch of kids in a garage studio (we hope!) so they should have anticipated this and planned accordingly. They take a lot of money in both software sales and FCT subscriptions - not to mention the Kickstarter - but can't keep a fundamental part of the "Trainz" service ticking over.

As I said though, that may be due to the company who hosts N3V's servers (and as Zec has said, it's not feasible for N3V to have 24/7 monitoring either).

Still offline..........

Sorry guys, but seeing that people like myself pay money for a 365 day service with a first class ticket, some sort of recompense would by nice. How about a discount voucher for the next DLC in TANE in the future? Or an extra week of FCT?

Regards.
CaptEngland.

CM still out. Now about 7 hrs and counting since last connection.
Looks like the 7 day extension for uploads is going to eaten up by the server downtime, partly at least. Is this going to be made up?

Raised a support ticket on the helpdesk as I have had enough. Problems since Friday. Until late last night UK time could not even get on to CM3.7. For the last 24 hours or so can login to CM3.7 but grindingly slow and half the time just does not progress. However, TS12 build 61388 is worse as I have no purchased content showing up and cannot redownload purchases as TS12 repeatedly says it has no contact with the app store. Auran.com comes up eventually but login there took multiple tries and several minutes each tm before timing out. The forum pages have the dreaded 'rotating circle' over the screen half the time and I have retyped it several time as some letters are just not displaying as I type them.

It's back for downloading, well after a fashion. CMP not tallying the total Mb of queued items and taking a while to switch to the next asset.

I doubt the 500,000 "new" Android users were very impressed by their first Trainz experience either, when the pop-ups for in game purchases start arriving (how much I hate those, should be against international law) and they couldn't actually proceed! With T:ANE just over three months away, plus originally being the TS2009/2010 switch off weekend, at this point shouldn't N3V be concentrating on their core PC market. Oh well, so long as the tablet distraction doesn't send them the same way Fury nearly did...

Still down for me , four days now. I don't think I will be renewing my first class tickets, waste of time. I have lost four days and still it goes on.

Looks like it's gone again... 15:14 BST.

Yep. "Unable to contact Planet Auran". Sometimes seems like they are on a different planet! :)

Can a tablet user create a detailed route to the same extent as you can in the PC version?

Can you view and work with the tablet version on a hi-res screen, 24" monitor?

I suspect most tablet "free" apps get downloaded out of curiosity and deleted after a few days, either out of boredom or when it starts asking for in game purchases (judging by how SWMBO uses her Samsung Galaxy). So yes the stats look good at face value but over time will it sustain as the loyal PC users have since 2001?

Perhaps they should have a completely different DLS server for the tablet, gadget etc. market to avoid this type of thing in future.

As much as it might be frustrating when game access is compromised, I think we need some perspective here. The sky will not fall nor will the world come to an end if a game is hobbled for a short time. From the tone of some messages, it sounds like that is what is happening.

I get that a FCT was bought and service is expected. Compensation in kind appears to be in the cards. Meanwhile, I played TS12 offline for a while and participated in other non-computer activities during the long weekend.

At work, it is not unheard to have computer service degraded, tickets are put in and eventually things are put right. For those already retired, you might not experience this but it happens in the work-a-day world.

I seem to have missed any problems............ Dead internet for 7 days, just been fixed and the DLS + FCT seems to be fine. ;)

Spent the down time gardening and spring cleaning my computers.

"martinvek- The sky will not fall nor will the world come to an end if a game is hobbled for a short time".

I agree but.....
I had downloaded a number of things already and had more in my 3.3 CM's list starting to download when it all stopped. I figured it was something I had done. I shut everything down and went to tend the vegetables in the garden. Came back, tried to get back into CM through the launcher and it went into an extended data base repair/validation etc. TAD stopped working part way through checking for faulty assets (my Trainz's version of Window's blue screen of death). I gave it 3 hours (without closing the program), checking task manager for any sign of life- nada.....

So I had to close it down manually (which I HATE to do). In the past, I've been able to get into CM to do a date base repair & get going again (even after a a manual shutdown, or 2 or 3), by starting CM from 2010's bin and giving all lot's of time to do it's thing. No luck. So after shutting it down manually and trying again way too many times, I gave up, much later (and much too late) checking with the forum and finding out that the server was down.

The end result? Undoubtedly a horribly corrupted asset data base and CM; a lost holiday weekend of actually PLAYING with my layout; and the inability to download the many things I was hoping to.
So we get a week's extension for downloading/uploading for 2009/2010? OK, but 2 days of that 7 day extension is now already gone. I still can't get into my CM, download from the DLS or play my game, and when it's finally ready to let me- I'll still be in corrupted CM asset data base H-LL.

And I still can't seem to get a definite answer about how this closing of support for my 2010 will actually affect the use of my CM to download (eg: only from DLS?... through my CM for DLS stuff AND 3rd party or just DLS?...through CM for content packs already downloaded, but not yet installed into my assets? Heck is my 3.3 Content Manager going to be viable at all? Really?????

I'm not placing the blame on any specific shoulders (I'll leave that to others who best know the answers) just so discouraged....
I don't think I have ever complained in this forum before today- Thanks to all for listening to my rant. Wish us TS2010 (and before) users some luck. Rebecca

To add my experiences to the pool of what appears to be mostly sucking sounds here:

I have no FCT, so I do things the slow way (And rather proud of my 100K+ Asset count as a result). That said, my service was moderately uninterupted, at least in so far as that I could (Read *Can*) still download *some* assets.... The higher traffic volumes have definitely slowed things up, requiring multiple attempts to connect, random connection loss incidents, multiple attempts to Download assets I should have no problems downloading, and the weirdest one of all over the weekend: Some assets that I know to be on the DLS just refusing to be Downloaded at all through CM or FTP off the website (I though they said support for 2.9 was going to continue? So what on earth is causing this?).

Then, this morning, my DLC (Luckily I only own the S&C), all cropped up as missing dependencies. That in and of itself I understand and am not too worried about... What bothers me is that a whole host of *Other* content also did the same thing.... Things like the Iportals, and the CMTM..... I thought both of those were free (No money, no DRM?). But both systems appear just like the DLC, missing one apparently random KUID.....

Anywho, whatever the case, at least I can still load up Trainz and play.....
