DLC Frustration

Hello, all. Chris here.

I downloaded the NKP Freight DLC from Sim Central and installed it today. Then the game crashes when i exit from what i'm doing, so i shut it off using Task Manager. Upon restarting Trainz 12, i had to go through that stupid database update, which took about 1 hour to finish. Once done, the game would not load. Eventually i got an error telling me to restart my computer, so i did. After opening the launcher, i opened up CM so that TADDaemon won't have to take 10 minutes to load, as i do always. Then after trying to start TS12 for real I was greeted with A DATABASE UPDATE!!! WHYYYYYYYYYYY???? I JUST WANT TO PLAY WITH THE STUPID DLC!

Sincerely (ANGRY),

Sounds like either your force-close or your system restart (or both) corrupted the database. You will have to allow the database repair to proceed.

Chris,

Listen to what Shane and the others here are saying. You have forced the program to quit which corrupted the database. Now TS12 has to spend time verifying, and possibly repairing, the data so it will now work in the program again. The process takes time and can take a very long time if you have a lot of content such as I do.

So rather than killing the "updating database" let it finish, or better yet run a QDR in Content Manager manually. This will take care of that and hopefully you can get on with what you were doing. It's important though to note a couple of things here. Even though you have done a database repair you are going to find some missing content in your routes. Having said this, once the repair process is completed in Content Manager, do a searches for faulty and possibly missing content. Faulty items are usually false reports, and by the very process of checking for errors by viewing errors and warnings, these should go away. If there are any errors left, these have to be attended to. Secondly, you will most likely receive a validation process once Trainz TS12 is started from the Launcher. This can, and very much will, cause the program to run very, very, slowly for quite some time depending upon how much content you have downloaded and installed.

So having said all this, I highly recommend that you run a DB repair overnight, clean up the errors when this process completes, the launch Trainz and let it validate. Instead of trying to route build or do anything, I suggest finding something else to do away from the computer so the validation process can complete quickly.

Okay, to clear this up, the updates are done and i have not had to kill TS12 using TM. All is fine now. But i just hope that these problems, DRM, and all other bad TS12 things will not go over to TANE, but deep down, i know it will.

What you were experiencing was not a problem, it was the game validating data to ensure everything was going to operate properly.

Yeah, but i still hope that this feature's appearance is less numerous.

If you don't crash the program like you did, you shouldn't see this "feature" again. As has been stated, this has nothing to do with DRM.

I highly suggest that you back up everything to another location, and I mean your complete Trainz install so that if anything crashes completely, all you need to do is copy back again. You will need to do periodic backups to the same folder to ensure that your most recent work is being backed up, however, it is quite manageable once you get into the habit of backups.
