None of the custom displacement maps I have created show up in Surveyor TR09. They are all the right format, and in the right directory, I have build 40040 SP2. How do I fix this ??? Have seen some postings suggesting saving in TR06 then exporting but this is a bandaid not a solution. Help ....

Hi johnxramsay,

You could try copying them to the right directory, it should be world\custom\displacements.

Bill if it was that easy wouldn't be trying to get answer on the forum. All the files ARE in the right directory, none of the maps show up. There's a lot of traffic on various forum indicating this is a pretty wide spread issue.

The only way I have found to make a custom displacement show up in TRS2009, is to:

FIRST-- create your displacement (Paint Shop, Photoshop, etc.)

SECOND-- USING TRS2006, create a new map in the final size you want and place your displacement in this map. Save it.

THIRD-- Go into Content Manager (again TRS2006), find the map you just made, and "Save to CDP." Save it to your Desktop. Close Content Manager.

FORTH-- Open TRS2009 Content Manager. From the desktop, drag the map you just made in TRS2006 into TRS2009 Content Manager. Make sure it's committed. Now go into TRS2009 Surveyor. You should have your custom displacement map.

Dispacement Maps TS2009

Thanks Dave, I was hoping the Auran team would have a fix for this by now as your work-around is fine for those who have TS2006. I'll give it a try with Classic-3 and see how I go. Cheers.

Hi every one,

The problem is in TS2009 build 40040 the Displacement folder is no longer used, displacements are now kuid files so go to Content Manager and use the 'New Asset' option to create TS2009 displacements.

I assume this was done so displacement maps could be put on the Download Station, however not many people know about this yet.

TS2099 Displacement

Thanks for that, there does not seem to be an asset type for displacement maps in build 40400 and none of the other asset types seem appropriate. Could you offer some more advice on how to use the new asset for the maps. Regards.

Hi John,

Open Content Manager, do a search for 'displacement' and you will find 3 build in kuid type displacements.

The Type is 'Miscellaneous', if you open one of the config files you will see
kind "groundbrush"
I have not tried to create a displacement in TS2009, but I assume that when you commit your new displacement it will show up in Surveyor?

Thanks William, the link to the detailed instructions was very helpful. The missing link was copying the groundbrush file into the new 'editing directory' I still had them all in the custom/displacements folder. Theconfig file would commit and the title of the map appears in Surveyor, however the map itself was still not visible !

Hmmm.. By not visible I assume you mean it doesn't show in surveyor. What format did you use for the image? I have noticed that some programs don't create a .bmp file that TS2009 likes. Maybe try making it a jpeg image.

If it committed without any errors then it should show in surveyor.

Displacement Maps in TS2009

Hi Dave, here's another way to get displacment maps to work in TS2009 that does not rely on TS2006.

Thanks for yoiur earlier assitance.

Cheers

Hi all. The number of posintgs I have seen relating to the missing "Dispalcement Maps" in TS 2009 from Build 40400 prompted this tutorial. As a relatively new user I couldn't find any documentation on the change so I created my own. If you find it useful please share it around when you see a plea for help Displacement Maps.
