Disney world map

Hi signalman65
I like the horse drawn coach and look foreward to seeing the project as it unfolds. Will you have the working boats aswell? car park to magic kingdom and in the epcot lake.
It is a big job, but I had intended to do it all. The trouble is that I can not find decent pictures of the boats to model from, and the biggest problem with the modeling is getting the dimentions. I will be adding screen captures of SSEarth to my web site today if I get time.

Thanks Stagecoach for the info I have added it to my favorites. It will help since there are some good side and front shots to go by. I have done a lot of searching for pictures and diamentions myself that is how I have been able to do as much as I have.

There's actually enough information out there to blow your socks off. There are several YouTube videos taken from inside the monorails as they go around the entire place. Google Maps has a very clear map of railways in Disney World. I assume some are the monorails. This map is very accurate. A Google search for "Disney World Maps" brings up several sites specializing in Disney World maps only. Finally, Google Earth has high resolution photos of the entire area. If you captured them and did a cut and paste, the resulting picture would be almost ten feet square.

As there is so much information freely available out there, I'm not quite sure what you're actually looking for.

I have both Virtual Earth and Google Earth, one has 3D and birds eye view but no on screen ruler and the 3D doesn't work on my computer. The other one goes in real close but loses clarity the closer you get. It does have a ruler that allows for direct measurements. Motion pictures are not very good for capturing images for modeling.

AS for Google Maps I am not sure what you are talking about, I will try a search using what you suggest and see what I get. To make accurate models I must have good views of the subject from all sides as well as the top, and some clue as to the size. I can get the shape of the buildings roofs from Virual or google earth, but that is no good with out the sides, and heights.

THe real hard part at least for me is the texturing and finding good textures.

Disney World is a massive place. It would be near impossible to get photos of every building in plan, elevation and side elevation. Textures are another issue again. Google earth allows you to home in to 100 metres. You can clearly see people cars, trains and track. All the buildings are 2D except for the Magic Kingdom. There's a wealth of detail to be had, but to recreate all those buildings for Trainz would be a lifetime's work - provided you're three years old and you live to 100. Google Maps just shows the acreage with the train lines clearly marked. I wish you luck.

You are right there I know I will never live long enough to do it all. But a bunch of people doing different models could do it faster, especially if they had good info of the items. I have the newest version of Google Earth, and it will zoom in to 8m but blurry. It is suppose to be 3D, but when you tilt over you can not see the sides of anything. Virtual Earth does have true 3D and birds eye view, which shows the sides great, but my computer wont render fast enough or in some cases right. It is not the software at fault, just my computer. If I could up grade to a better system it would be great.

awesome route, way to stick with the acuracy and create your own scenery

i especially love the ng cars that you made for the trains, one of a kind, great work, also i like your choice of steam power, still working on a 3ft ng forney

Thanks for that link Stagecoach. That should keep the route builders quiet from the next twenty years or so. It also made me realize that my version of Google Earth needs updating. I'm doing it right now!

Edit: Been there - done that. Here's a sample:

I have been working on the WDW layout for over a year, and the map I have is as close as I could make it. I have pictures of the layouts progress on my web site. I have modeled The Ticket and transportion center and the Monorail shops building and have just finished the Epcot space ship earth model for the most part. I still have some refinements to make to it. The progress is slow because I have to make the content myself, I found the Contempery Hotel, and the Epcot Station made by JFE and have them on the map. I have not uploaded any of my work to the DLS as yet. My web site is at http://biggsplace.com if you want to see what I have done so far. I am also working on a map of my home town which is there too.
P.S. I have also made the opensided old time RR cars in the four disney colors, and I have the streetcar too.

Nice!!!:) I can't wait!!!:)

Signalman65, I sent you an email via your web site. let me know when you receive it. I'm willing to help.

Well I have finished for the most part the Magic Kingdom Monorail station that I have been working on. Here are a couple of screen captures that I will be adding to my web site soon

It maybe a long time before I put it on the DLS, But I might consider sending it on request to those who are interested. Are you doing the Disney park layout too, and how many other models do you have?
