Discussion Forums Space bar glitch - is it just me?

scratchy

Hi, just wondering if other users can confirm this? I've tried it on a few computers with the same result, only seems to have happened recently. If you use the reply with quote button on a post, then go to reply normally after the text, it only lets you put one space in? If you type in between the existing quoted text its fine. Weird! Again, could just be me, if so I'm going to look like a goose for posting this.

Cheers, Rich

It happens to me as well. I recall a while back it was an issue and then corrected itself. Then it returned a couple of weeks back. If you use advanced mode then spaces are not an issue.

I'm guessing it's a Windows issue.

I can confirm having something odd with typing a space sometimes.

I notice that sometimes it refuses to accept me typing a space between words.
When pressing enter and backspace (so effectively starting at the same point again) the problem seems solved; I no longer have problems typing a space.

Tried that and only got one space. Tried it again, in this post, and it worked. Very weird.

I can report that I've been having this problem for a while. Good to know it's not just me; I mentioned it to N3V when I first noticed it a while back & was implied that it was some problem with my system.

It's a known issue (to the web team at least, perhaps not to helpdesk until now) and requires a forum software update which is scheduled for the new year. Meanwhile, the work around is that when it happens, to write the reply in notepad and copy paste.

Apparently using the full/advanced replay works fine as well.

No problems with spaces, but 8 of the 10 times I want to post a message the board tells me:

´The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.´

Then I can start all over again.

Only on this forum.

So, now I have to first copy the complete text (ctrl-C) and when it goes wrong I do (ctrl-V) and then all goes well.

Very annoying.

So it's a bug... I thought it was something wrong here.

The arrow keys act weird as well sometimes as well when jumping between lines. You need to click on a line then the arrow keys move okay, but not always. The bug is probably related.

Yes, I have this issue as well when using the Google Chrome browser. I tried Internet Explorer and even Firefox, and I don't remember experiencing the problem there.

I have jumped ship with Chrome several times, but keep coming back. It just seems to suit my needs best.

Meanwhile, Advanced Mode is the way to work around the problem when it crops up.

Maybe Tony/Chris a quick fix might be to disable the quick reply feature of the forums.

For the sake of providing info on the issue. At home I cannot use my space bar in the quick reply. However when I'm at work it is somewhat random, this message I've types in the quick reply however other messages I've had to use the advanced. Both machines run Win7 & use Chrome.

Afraid it does happen in Firefox. I don't use IE, Edge or Google's Spyware.

I've also experienced the problematic spaces and thought it was something to do with Chrome. Good to know the problem is not my end. However, I also have another forum "bug" which happens on & off. When I have read new posts and close Chrome, if I re-open it later the 'read' posts have all become 'unread' again. Hopefully this is something the new forum software will fix too.

That happens in Edge as well so it's not Chrome and is more likely a forum thing.
