Disappearing scenery

Help - I am a newbie to Trainz. I have been using the sim (TR2006) for a week or so with no problems. Yesterday I started a new Northbay scenario & found that all I had was the ground, tracks & rolling stock. No trees, buildings, cars, etc. There was no way to change the points. Ctrl H made no difference. But, I resumed a saved game from the same scenario - perfect. I then tried other scenarios from the game - some had scenery & worked OK - others didn't. I reloaded the game & re-booted the PC - no change. I am running an i5 - 2500 4core 64bit PC with Windows 7 Home. Trainz is on the C drive root directory not in program files. Any help much appreciated - otherwise a re-install is called for! Regards, ChrisD

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the forums!

It sounds like your database is corrupt but don't worry as there is a fix for it.

1) Close Content Manager and TRS2006 if you have them running and wait a minute or two for things to settle down.

2) Open the folder where you installed TRS2006 and delete the following files. You might want to search for them as it maybe easier.

assets.tdx and assets.bku

3) Once these are deleted, reboot your computer.

4) Restart Trainz as this will rebuild the database.
Depending upon the amount of time needed, this can take some time to complete. When it's complete, Trainz will start up.

5) Close Trainz and go into Content Manager.

6) Go to the Faulty content tab, or search for faulty = true in the search.
There will be faulty assets. Don't panic.

7) Highlight the list by clicking on one and then pressing the CTRL+A keys at the same time.

8) With the list highlighted, right-click and choose "View Errors and Warnings" (You can also access this from the edit menu on the top-part of the screen).

Any errors there should disappear, while any left over will need to be repaired. We can help you with the errors should there be any. Usually content is easy to fix. :)

9) Close CM and go back and run Trainz.

In the future, remember to wait a few minutes after closing Trainz or Content Manager before shutting down or restarting your computer. The screen is closed, but there are things happening in the background.

On another note, and this is important too for route editing. There are sessions and routes. They are connected, but exist in two different parts. Sometimes what you do in a session will not appear on the route. You will notice this if you place trains in the session as they don't appear on the route. However.... stuff placed on the route will appear in a session.

And there's another thing related to all this. A saved driver session will not reflect any changes made on the route or session. So if you are driving along, notice things out of place, go back and edit then drive again, you'll still see the problems in the saved driver's session. If you are testing, it's best to just exit and come back because the saved driver's session is useless at that point in the process.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Hi John & thanks for replying. However, I could not find either assets.tdx or assets.bku anywhere on the PC. So I did as I thought I would have to & removed the program & re-installed it Once again it works OK. One small point - I asked it to save a scenario (diesel with loaded logs at camp 2 - Northbay) It loaded the shunter but not the loaded wagons. However - not a problem. I checked the re-installed program & still do not have the 2 assets.
Just to clarify, I have The Collectors Edition which includes Routes Volumes 1 - 4. The back of the box says 2006 edition. It was published by Focus Essential. The small print at the back says 2011 Auran games. Sys Req says Win 7 which I have. It cost about £5 from Morrisons!!
Still - thank you for replying & I have noted your comments about usage. The program is running OK now, but I would be interested in your comments re. missing assets. Best Regards, ChrisD

Hi Chris.

A fiver for the program! Not a bad deal for the package! :)

Missing dependencies....

If you can list the missing assets here by KUID, someone can help you locate them. You can do this by going into Content Manager Plus (CMP as we call it), and viewing the missing dependencies. Highlight the list and paste into a thread.

You probably will need to purchase a First Class Ticket. This will allow you to have full high speed access to what we call the DLS, and is required for access for those that still use the older versions of Trainz. This costs about $22 use (about £13) per year), and is worth its cost no matter what of version of Trainz you are running.

Focus Essential was one of, perhaps still is, a distributor of Trainz for N3V or at the time Auran. Here in the US it as Merscom Software who put their name on the package. There were so many difference distributors around that it can be a bit confusing, but they are all the same product. The only difference is Just Trains requires the CD/DVD be placed in the DVD-drive for operation. Many of the publishers bundled things together. Your Routes Volumes 1 - 4 plus the program was a nice package.

Your brute force reinstall did the trick. Finding and deleting the assets.tdx file would have done the same. As you download more and more content, you will opt for the less than destructive method on future fixes. :)

Hi John, Thanks for your comments - the reason I mentioned the program was in case I had a cut down economy program. I have already registered with Auran using my serial number - getting me 3 months membership. If all still runs OK I will up it to 12 months. I checked in the CMP & as yet I have no missing dependencies - but then I haven't added anything since re-loading. I have noted about the .tdx file for future reference. At present I am still learning the program on the Northbay lines & some of the easier ones. May thanks for your help & comments. Regards, ChrisD

I know what you mean about taking some economic measures... I'm a recent pensioner and now count my pennies! :)

Having the ticket is good in case you need to download anything in the future...

Also check that you don't have anything open for edit. This too can cause the same problem.

Good luck.

John
