Hello trainzeers one and all. Can you put a digital download on a disc so you have a permant copy just in case your PC heads south? What kind of disc would one use? The reason I ask is there are a couple of digital downloads on the Auran shop page that I would like to DL. Thanks........Alco_P-A

Hi Alco,

Not sure what you mean by digital download. The best way to avoid losing your downloads is to backup the directory they are contained in.
If you are using TRS2006 they are contained in your TRS2006\local directory. If you are using TRS2004 they are contained in TRS2004\world\dispatcher\downloads.

Yes, you can put the digital download versions onto a CD. :) Sorry, you'll probably need a DVD :) But yes, you can. Not sure if it will install from it though.

the kind of disk you will need will be determined by the amount of data you want to put on it.

You can use a dual layer DVD and create folders on it until you fill that DVD with data.

Bus Driver

I got the bus driver digital download from the auran home page and would like to copy it from my c-drive to a disc if possible so I would have a permant copy in cast my pc dies or I buy a new one. What's an easy way to do it? Thanks all.....

One way to do it is to make an ISO copy and burn it to CD/DVD
Ihave the original from SCS and Eurotrucker too and I used PowerISO to conver original downloads to an ISO file. Then if all goes down atleast you have a copy andshould reinstall if need be

All you need to do is this:
1. In Windows, find the folder where you downloaded the program to. Right click on it and find out it's size. If it is over 700MB then it will not fit on a CD. If it is over 4.7GB then it will not fit on a standard DVD. It should be about 1GB (I do not have the program so this is a guess)
2. Put the correct size disc into a drive that can write to that type of disc.
3. Right-click on the folder in windows containing the program and choose "copy"
4. Navigate to the DVD-RW (or whatever) drive in "My Computer" ("Computer" in Vista), right-click on the drive, and choose "Open". it should look like an empty folder when you are in.
5. Right click and choose "paste". This will copy the files to the drive ready for writing. This may take some time.
6. When the computer has finished copying, you should have some files in the drive that are see-through and under the heading: Ready to be written to disc. There should be an option on the left hand side of the folder explorer called "Write these files to disc". Click on it, and follow the wizard steps. If there is an option to "delete temporary files once this wizard finishes" (or similar) then select it if you do not want to make another copy. If you do, then leave it blank. There should also be an option to "eject disc when wizard has finished". Check this if you want as it is a handy reminder that the computer is finished if you want to play trainz while the drive is recording.:hehe:

Hope this helps,

CD's and DVD's are called optical disks. Writing data onto optical disks is often called "burning".

The only difference between CD's and DVD's is how much data they can hold. CD's can hold up to about 700MB per disk. Normal DVD's can hold up to about 4.2GB per disk. There are also dual layer and double sided DVD's which hold more.

CD-R, DVD-R and DVD+R disks can only be written to once. If the recording goes wrong, that's a wasted disk, often called a "coaster" because jokingly it can only then be used as a drinks mat.

CD-RW, DVD-RW and DVD+RW disks can be written to, and then later erased and written to again. Therefore if you're not used to writing data onto optical disks, buy some CD-RW disks and experiment with them, erasing them when you want to try again. Once you've gained confidence use -R disks for permanent backups.

There are two ways of writing data to optical disks. One writes all the data, using a program such as those published by Nero or Adaptec/Roxio. The other way is to write each set of files separately using Windows Explorer. I find the first option much more reliable but if the second works for you it's probably easier.

These days there's effectively no difference between DVD- and DVD+ disks. They were originally two rival systems but all modern equipment can read and write both types.
