Digital download questions

..........
Hi folks; I'm going to order "Murchison 2". There are "scenery items" like waterfalls, etc., that come with it, and at the moment that's what I'm interested in. When you receive a digital download will it install in TS12 automatically, or do you install it when you want to? Does TS12 already have these scenery items (sorry, I'm not sure what you guys call them)? I bought TS12 (boxed) for my father in law. Can I pass the digital download to him, or should I buy 2 copies? Does it matter how many routes you install? Would I need to buy anything else for "Murchison 2"?

I also see "TS 2009: World Builder Edition" is on sale. Would this be of any help to a person who wants to try building his own layout in TS12?

I'm still just looking around at all the features in the sim. I only found out yesterday that the in game manual is much larger than the manual that comes with the discs. I printed the whole thing. I think for me it will be easier to have a printed manual, instead of having to bring up the manual in the sim every time. I have a feeling the manual will answer a lot of my questions, and I won't have to bug you guys all the time. Got to do some reading!

Thanks, once again, cheers.......Rick

Hi Rick,

We meet again (in forum-speak, of course).

To answer your questions:

The addon packs have the option of either installing as a standalone (which is without Surveyor or Content Manager), or as an addon to an existing Trainz version.

You can install it when you want to - be aware though that there are some required steps in adding an addon pack to an existing Trainz install though. From memory, there is one route in the Murchinson 2 pack.

You should have two seperate serial numbers if it is to be installed into two different versions of Trainz.

With relation to previous versions, you can download most of the built-in content from TS2009/TS2010 from the Download Station apart from the actual routes and sessions themselves.

You should have everything needed in the addon pack, though.

Thanks a lot, Shane. My gosh, I just got finished looking at Sirgibby's site. He must be a Trainz guru! I will gladly buy 2 copies. My only worry is that I will love everyone's work so much...I won't bother trying to build anything myself. OK, one more question about digital downloads. I am going to get 2 copies. Can i put his copy on an usb stick, so he can take it home and transfer it to his computer? This is going to be my first experience with digital downloading. He's had even less time with computers than I have. I am going to have to give him a hand. Talk about your blind leading the blind!

Thanks again, seems like you're on here 24 hours a day!

Cheers........Rick

It's not 24 hours a day, but it is not far off.

Be aware though that depending on where you buy it from, you may need to read my latest blog post.

The installer file though is self-contained so it can be put on a USB stick to transfer it.

Shane

OK. I'm off to Simulator Central, I'll find your blog and hope all goes well.

Say, you wouldn't mind giving me your phone number, so I can call you for help those odd times you're not on the forums, hee, hee.

Thanks for everything, mate!

Rick

The only times I'm not available on the forums is when I'm not available anyway (work, bed etc).

I also crop up sometimes on the #trainz channel on the TS12 chat system.

Shane

Yeah, those are the times I want to bug you on the phone, hee, hee.

Well, I think that it all went well. I only got one installer, but 2 serial numbers. I guess that's all I need. I just had to get it in the game, and take a look at it. Wow, I already got my money's worth just looking at it with all the camera views! I just wasted, well I should say enjoyed, over an hour looking at it. What a great job everyone has done on this simulator and add-ons. I'm blown away every time I launch it! Well, tomorrow I have to get back to learning how to do everything. I could watch it on "hi def" so I'm really happy that my pc seems to be able to run the sim well. I have had no problems with the DLS or Simulator Central, so the fellas running them are doing a great job, too.

Thanks to all and cheers.......Rick
