Diesel Locomotive operation question.

SD45T-2

Going back in time...
Disclaimer-This is a guy trying to study to get into the RR industry. Do not do anything illegal with this info. You will land in jail with huge fines on your back.

Is the following the proper way to start a EMD Dash 2 series diesel?

Edit-Anyone who wants the list, PM me. Some people are evil and/or just want a joyride.

 I don't normally post in threads like this...I have enough books and manuals to do time...:o

However, any locomotive manual will correctly list the proper procedure for starting a locomotive and operating a train.:D

You have several procedures out of order, like when to release the hand brake and so on...

Your dealing on a public forum for which you have no idea what people will do with such information.

I am glad they lock the doors to unoccupied locomotives now days...a FRA Regulation.:p

I'm happy with simply running Trainz!

World of Trainz has a simplified starting procedure for all their payware locomotives...no battery knife switches and PC-switches involved....;)

By the way the fine is $10,000 and/or a 10-year prison sentence, capitol punishment for death or injury involved...:hehe:

A few interesting things not mentioned already on the safety side is that any person has to be qualified to start any locomotive , and any locomotive does not get started if you have not checked visually that there is nobody still working on it anywhere. A locomotive can run away too if the air is not built up , the brakes set and scotches applied to the wheels, and the handbrake gets released ( mentioned earlier )
There should also be a trip report attached to a clipboard and that should be checked for defects before starting.
Intersting perhaps is that any fitter who works on a dead locomotive must insert an ID safety pad - identifying that person who works - in the battery knife switch, and nobody may remove such a pad but the owner.Another thing is that some earlier locomotives will move in notch 1 and in FWD or REV gear even if the air is has not built up to realese a safety device to rev the engine.

Thanks for your input guys.

Yes, I forgot a lot of things, and I'm still fearful that someone is going to come after me.

Oh great, I knew it. I also forgot huge steps.

I know, Still afraid I'm on the FBI blacklist now.

I think so, if they don't, they should to prevent joyrides.

that is good to know because when i grow up i want to drive trains...ALOT:)

It is not correct, do not do it.

This is the FBI. We're watching you. Put that soda down when we're talking to you!!! Our binoculars are so powerful, we can see you changing your mind!

Seriously, unless the US has suddenly become a military dictatorship, run on fear and paranoia (perhaps it has, the news just hasn't crossed the Atlantic as of 16:41) you won't get in trouble for discussing information that is openly available in the public domain so don't be so paranoid/silly.

This happened under President Reagan, please amend your database. :hehe:

As for the op,
This is a guy trying to study to get into the RR industry.
........ you do not need to know these things until you have been accepted for training, they will
then teach you their operating regulations, each railroad has their own standards, they don't expect
you to be fully conversant with their rule book when you enrol.

This thread is therefore, unwarranted. ;)

Ok then. No, it has not changed.

What's ironic is many people (I'm not saying this about the OP, just in general) are positively paranoid of posting stuff like this online but they'll give every intimate detail of their life on Facebook without the slightest concern.

I'm not them, I've only said my name online.

Ok then, I have two more questions.

Is the Motorola Spectra the de-facto standard for locomotive radio heads?

How do you use a distance counter when coupling?
