DEM Terrain for Donner Pass?

Does anyone know of DEM terrain with TIGER lines for the Espee's Donner Pass Crossing? The whole way from Roseville to Sparks would be ideal. There is nothing I can find on the DLS or the non-Auran sources I've checked.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Fishlipsatwork did DEM with tiger lines don't know if it on DLS or on his website which is gone now, I've got it here somewhere but I'm on dail up so can't send it, I did a WMS and DEM for it just the other day with the goggle earth of the Antelop yard I'm waiting for TC3 though to see if they fixed the train creep problem to see whether I have to build a flat yard ot not.

Your best bet would be TransDEM the Donner I highly recommend it, it comes out really well

Cheers

Thank you, Lots Trains

I checked and if fishlipsatwork did a Donner Pass he didn't put it on the DLS.

Good luck with your project.

Nowadays you can get 10m NED DEMs for the High Sierra (USGS Seamless Server). Not yet available when fishlipsatwork generated his maps, I would think.

Bernie, I once downloaded Fishlipsatwork's Donner Pass Dem file. From memory it was VERY large and I am thinking something like 100MB plus. I do not remember where it went from or to but my memory is from Sacramento to Reno. As I am Australia I am not sure about the cities in the USA.

However, I did remove the Baseboards I did not need. Then I gave up on the project and forwarded all my maps (heaps of them from Researching the area) and the DEM file to that person. Not long after that he deleted everything I sent as he also gave up the idea. He live in Canada but was stationed near the area in WWII and actually travel on the line (I think), this was some time ago that the idea was talked about so my memory is not that great.

One reason why I gave up was due to the custom items that would be needed for this project. At the time someone else was also doing this line and I think that was the people at TPR, so contacting Meridious there may also help.

Anyway, instead of turning this post into a waffle post :hehe: I thought I would "tease" you first with some "history" of mine before I told you I found fishlipatwork's DEM that I had cut down :D :D :D .

It covers from Soda Springs to Truckee :) . It is just over 20MB and I could put it one-line at a site I know and you can then Download it.

If this would help you, email me with an email address I can send it to and you will have as soon as I can set it up.

Seeseeme, you have been a huge help.

A little history of my own. My very first train ride, on the BIG CHOO-CHOO, not on the Key System Oakland to San Francisco interurban, was on the Overland Limited from Oakland, on the way to visit my uncle in Columbus Ohio, back when I was six. My Grandpa was a steamfitter for the Espee so my folks got the tickets at a discount. That was when I fell in love with trains, and I well remember the spectacular ride over the Sierras.

Thanks again,
