DEM help

Is there anyone that can help with DEM's? I'm currently attempting to create a route using MicroDEM and HOG. I am able to create the .gnd file and commit it, the problem is that when I open the project in Surveyor, it's pitch black and there are no baseboards. I tried using different DEM's but all with the same result. I even tried creating a new route in surveyor but still no results. What am I doing wrong? I realize the tutorial is for TS2004 and I'm running 12 so there are no doubt some differences, I just don't know what they are and the help file hasn't been much help.

I haven't used this method in a very long time, probably since TRS2004, so I'm not sure if this is of any help.

Check that you have the proper layers enabled. The baseboards should be on the Route Layer so click on that in the layers manager and ensure that the eyeball is lit up and the lock is unclicked.

Other than this suggestion, I'm not sure what else is going on.

Thank you! I am able to get elevation data on the baseboards though I am having a problem with TIGER. When creating the .gnd file in HOG, I have to leave the additional info section blank because it tells me I have an invalid TIGER file even though I downloaded the file as shown in the tutorial. Any suggestions?

This is all a bit vague for me Hopefully this might help. From what I remember, MicroDem should have created textures out of the TIGER information. With that you will then have a textured route showing where the roads and rails go.

I'm sure others will poke in on this now that I've said something. That's usually a good trigger.

You might want to look into the inexpensive TransDEM (about $30 US). It will solve a lot of the issues you are having now and the files are much more accurate.
