DEM Data for Toowoomba Range (QLD)

Hey all!

I want to start to create the Toowomba range from Helidon to Toowoomba and was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to obtain the DEM data for this region. I plan on creating this route for DLS and making two versions, present day and 1950's era. Can anyone assist?

Many thanks in advance,

Mark

Hi Mark,

There is a DEM file that Jerker made for me which is from Ipswich to Toowoomba if you PM me I'll see what I can do for you.

Cheers,

Bill.

G'day Bill, let me be the first to say a big thank you for the day out/BBQ other day - was great fun, and as for the DEM data, I too would be interested in it, but if you don't mind, I'd get a copy off you next meeting at Ian's (hopefully I'll be back in Brissie when it comes up!)

Hi Guys,
I am wan'ting to do a route in CQ from Blackwater to Stanwell to start with, useing transdem. Can you guys help with where to start. As in the url or the http used for qld users to make the map.I tried the link from Roland for NSW but didn't work so am hoping some Qld users can help.
Many thanks Shane.

A lot of us got our DEM data from a guy in NSW called Jerker, but unfortunately, I haven't seen him around the forums lately. The DEM data he has makes some very detailed layouts, and are very close to accurate, terrain wise. The only other DEM data I have seen, was 9 sec DEM, which required a lot of work to get usable data out of it.

However, someone else on here may be able to suggest something which would be of more help.

Chris

Hi Anthony,

No problems regarding a copy at the next meeting I'll make sure to put it in my case.

Cheers,

Bill.

Ps. Mark you have mail.

G'day MarkNolan,

Before I respond to your post, I must say something in response to this...

Firstly, psycho_aussie/Chris, I live a little further south of NSW than you apparently think and secondly, I am still very much 'around'.

Mark, I could not improve upon the DEM work that I did for Willem2, so if he is quite willing to provide you with a copy of the original files that I sent him, I have no objections to that. If that fails (for whatever reason), let me know and I will provide you with a copy of the relevant section (the Ipswich to Toowoomba route was six separate parts, all told) - I still have the original copy of it. If I hear no more in this regard, I will assume all is well.

Hi Jerker,

I have a copy ready to forward to Mark, and will post it today.

Cheers,

Bill.

Thanks Jerker!

Hopefully will have the DEM data soon from Willem2 and away I go! I am looking forward to creating the Toowoomba range and having it on the DLS! We will see how long it takes to create but as there is only bush most of the way should be fairly straight forward I hope!

I've been working on a Rocky area route running from Yaamba to Bajool on the NCL, with part of the line running west far as Stanwell. Also covers part of the Yeppoon branch to Nerimbera. Made from maps, QR data and Google sat photos, and internet photos. It's reasonably accurate. This is about 90% finished. Hope to get along to the next meeting of QTrainz users group.
Cheers Will

Shane, there is no suitable WMS map data source for QLD as far as I know. The easiest way is to use one of the map tile servers, new in TransDEM 1.3. The map clippings you can acquire from these sources are road maps, not topographic maps, but they do show the railway lines at higher zoom levels. I'd try Google Maps and MS Virtual Earth here. Sample setup configurations to access those servers can be downloaded from my website.

Hi Jerker,

I was under the impression that you lived in southern NSW (I don't know where I got that idea from...), so I stand corrected. My second point is correct however. I hadn't seen you around. That did not mean that you weren't here.

I wouldn't mind seeing two different representations of the Ipswich-Toowoomba line. I should do some work on my Toowoomba-Charleville line... It's kind of lying in pieces at the moment.
