Just wondering if anyone with access to trainz DEM and American terrain/heightmaps etc is able to create a route/or two for me as a small favour?]

Cheers.

Is there a distinction in the license between uploading DEMs to the DLS and uploading full routes made with the DEMs? As Rico says, I see plenty of the former.

I would be surprised if any use involving Trainz would fall under a commercial license. I think that is aimed more towards the construction industry and architectural uses. However, I wouldn't consider making a Dem for use in Trainz a small favor. You are talking many hours of work in my opinion.

I agree that many hours of work would be needed.

You could argue that the TransDEM user could just create a route for the requestor consisting of a huge chunk of terrain, then email the .cdp file and let the requestor delete what they don't want. Of course, this would result in a route too big to save as a .cdp file, not to mention too big to email. So, there would have to be a lot of back-and-forth communication between them. Now finally, they agree on the needed terrain and the .cdp file is emailed. But now the requestor emails the TransDEM user and says "I was expecting you to include the X mountain range as background so could you re-do it?"

You can see where this is going.

Please only share/upload your own work. There is this "Threshold of originality" concept in copyright law. Clicking a few buttons in TransDEM will hardly suffice for this threshold.

I am going to lock this topic as apparently it is a spam magnet. If you really need to add something to this topic, let me know, but since the last serious (and not deleted) reply was over 2 months ago, I think it has run it's course.
