DEM data for Australia

3Ds MAX will be my demise
G'day!

I only just installed TransDEM a few hours ago and I am feeling pretty confident that I'll try to create a route with it. Are there any sources of downloadable DEM data for Australia? I'd like to create a route mainly in NSW but goes to the Victorian Border.

Cheers! :)

Jake.

Some low definition stuff is available here.

I have used these files with MicroDEM to produce displacement maps

New South Wales appears to have some good data available (see TransDEM tutorials). Unfortunately South Australia does not seem to have good data available (unless somebody can advise me otherwise) which made buying TransDEM (in my case) a bit unfortunate.

have you found an Aussie site for the elevations yet.. thats my thing I can't get any elevations on the route I have tried a couple of things out and if I leave it flat I can put a route in the game with track and google images as the default ground texture..

but you think I can understand the elevation stuff. I guess if I could find a place its at.. that would be a start..

I can get the relief maps but that would mean putting all those points on the map and adding contour lines I not sure I want to go down that path if there is an easier way.. I mean 250 K's of track and yards.. tunnels bridges and what not,

G'day!

I have one site, but it doesn't really tell you what location the DEM data is at.

Cheers! :)

yeah I found a NASA site that has Dem data available for the whole globe but you have to order it its free but. its a little fluky as far as the timing is concerned.

has all the detail you could ever use and now it is available to individual users. You have to register and go through some email exchanges to get the data but it is great that ordinary taxpayers can acess it for free.

The portal is not very intuitive but once you get to know it you can easily find what you want.
