Dear Auran,

jadebullet

might be back?
Is it too much to ask to patch the game and not have it completely ruin it? I mean, come on. Was there any testing at all for the new patch(TS2010 SP3)? Thanks to this patch, I cannot play trainz except for one time per computer boot. After I save once, it freezes, and has to be alt+F4ed. Then, when I try to restart trs, all I get is a stupid black box displaying my build number instead of the launcher. This lasts until I restart the computer, so thanks alot.

So, please, could you not do what I am sure you are going to do, and wait until you have a bunch of stuff for SP4 and release it months later? This is a SERIOUS problem that multiple people are having, so could you please just fix it as fast as possible, and release a SP3.5 or something?

Maybe a silly question but have you contacted the HelpDesk with this problem.

Another thing, while i have a similar problem, I never save my work unless I am leaving Surveyor or Driver and then I have no problems, may be this is worth a try.

Yes, I have contacted helpdesk. I have yet to hear back from them, and I have heard that others are having the same problem.

I try not to save unless I have to, but I spend so much time in surveyor that if TRS crashes and I lose 5 hours of work, I really won't be too happy.

Maybe it's following a similar trend to TRS2004. SP3 for that was the now legendary "Break Everything" patch.

Since "updating" to SP3, I've had some quirks when I try to load up TS2010 after spending time in CM, that I never had previously. No answer here I'm afraid.

Hi people,
could you please give your computer spec's please as it does help to work out the problem, make sure it is not a hardware problem, you may not think it is but it just could be

Problem prior to SP3 across multiple users... no. Problem after "upgrading" to SP3 across multiple users... yes. Safe bet it's not a hardware issue.

And yet it's not happened to every user...

My install seems quite Ok.

So where's the difference?

I'm making the assumption that patching to the latest version from the SP2 version gives the same result as patcihing from all other versions.

The biggest variable in the application is your computer; its operating system; the physical parameters of your PC, and the other programs/utilities you have installed & running.

If the patch was completely wrong, then we would all have these problems. But a number of users are not having these problems, therefore the patch is working for some users.
That must mean that the there is another difference - most likely in the users' PCs.

For the record;
Gigabyte motherboard, Athlon X2 4200 prcessor (dual core), 2Gb Ram , Win XP (SP3), nVidia 6600GT (AGP), Fortissimo sound card. Trainz installed on a searate hard drive from the OS.

SP3 TRS2010

Had similar problem but I found that my copy was not registered thanks to the Help Desk. Go to your Profile and Register again and see if this fixes the problem

A number of months ago i had so much trouble with ts2010 it wasen't funny,
changing from sp1 to sp2 ,it just wouldn't run with sp2 ,
however a hardware change fixed all problems
i now have
WINDOWS 7 64BIT
gigabyte motherboard ga-x58A-UD7
2 X ATI 5970 OC VIDEO CARDS CROSSFIRE
I7 CPU 930
12 GIG DDR3 RAM
1200 WATT POWER SUPPLY
8 TB WORTH OF HARD DRIVES
COOLER MASTER FULL TOWER CASE
I had a go at Auran about it and in the end it was my own hardware that was causing the problem .so make sure its not hardware
if the service packs were faulty we would all have the same problem and mine is running spot on.

Be fair
are you people overclocking your computers to get the max out of it ,
if so the new sp3 changes the software and it could be more demanding therefor hardware problems ,the newer the game the more demanding it can be,

this is an issue that could hold back a much better trainz game being built is
that peoples computers just can't run them because they are to old in tern
why would Auran build a game if nobody was going to by it .
even if you are not overclocking your computers new software upgrades can be more demanding anyway,i said can, could ,i didn't say is,
just check your hardware first

I agree with Steve. I have installed 2010 on three computers and it works fine on one , not at all on the other and speedtrees works in GL mode and not DX on the third.. Just because it will not work for a lot of users does not mean it is the software. The tester can not possibly test every configuration of computers out there.

The tester can not possibly test every configuration of computers out there.

Very true, but, what could be a problem is what O/S folks are using. There really are only 3 O/S in general use anyway these days, Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, if people are still using Windows NT / 98 / 2000 / Me, then that's their fault for not upgrading.
It does beggar the question that whoever is supplying the patch, is it available for XP/Vista/Windows 7, as they all use different DirectX numbers and as I have Windows XP which is DirectX 9, then I cannot use something that's been created for Vista or Windows 7, which are DirectX 10 & 11.
Now, nowhere on any of the Service Pack download pages does it say what the patch has been created in, so, who is to know what they have downloaded, this information is something that has never been released, and I would have thought that it would be vitally important to advise customers/users, what they are actually installing on their computers. If the patches are usable on all DirectX's, then surely, it would have been appropriate to have these facts stated, instead of Auran receiving hundreds of e-mails by peeps who ask this question.

And if people are gullible enough to just download and install something that they don't know what it is, then you only have yourselves to blame if you subsequently cannot play the game and/or your computer fails to work.

Cheerio. ex-railwayman.

So far I have had no problems since updating to TS2010 SP3, except for the first time I used CM, which was fixed after contacting the Helpdesk. By the way before I installed SP3 I had made sure that all the drivers on my computer was up to date.

Regards,
Warren.

Hi,

Unfortunately, we have different versions of XP (home & Pro; 32 bit & 64 bit) (and I assume for Vista & Win 7) - there's a mutiplicity of drivers for almost all versions.

That's before we look at the internaional situation with different language packs; (keyboards) etc.
Remember that every aplication adds its *.dll to the "pool" and the only way to guarantee an OS is to have a Mirrored install - on the same PC hardware (the BIOS will also change some of the settings - and indeed I changed CPU - there was another patch for that). As hinted at (above) we also have Different versions of Direct X and its implementation with different graphics cards/chips - the support for these if from their manufacturer/supplier - so the drivers for Direct X will differ as well......

Sometimes I think it's a wonder that so much does work...

Trust me on this one, it isn't a hardware problem. I have found a temporary fix to it, so hopefully that can help auran fix the patch.

It has something to do with TADeamon.exe or something, as if you end this process and restart trs, it the launcher works. It also works if you kill the process before saving. It restarts after a save though so you have to keep ending it. My concern though is, what is this doing to my game? Could I lose everthing by doing it?

Sometimes I think it's a wonder that so much does work...
Had a friend who was mechanical engineer who said that if you do the probability math for something made out of a thousand parts which are each 99% reliable, the question then becomes, "Why does it ever work?"

disclaimer: even after all these decades no independent check of the math has been done

This is the EXACT reason why I quit playing TS10 and threw the game out the window. I was disgusted with this stupid patch and didn't even bother to contact help desk, because the last time I contacted the help desk it took well to 5 months to get the issue resolves, actually the issue wasn't resolved we just closed the ticket.

If your computer will not run TS2010 with sp3 then only install sp2 untill
sp4 is avalible then try it ,or go back to 2009,
and you guys haven't put your computer spec's down to show us what hardware you have so really how can anyone help you people when we are not giving us the full story??????,
and if you are doing the same with Auran when you complain to then this could be why they don't answer you .
i don't work for Auran i just always see both sides.
regards steve

Trainz requires DirectX 9 irregardless of whether your machine is capable of DirectX 10 or 11.

There have been some issues where after patching Trainz cannot find DirectX 9 even when it is installed, but switching from OGL to DirectX usually sorts this out.

I'm WIN 7 64 bit Ultimate and I'm running TS2010 SP3 on my D:\ drive away from the C:\ Program Files folders.
