Daz3d for free --- free 3d software. Download if interested.

As the post title says. Download and give it a try. This is the real deal and not a trial version. Models created in here can be imported and exported out of Blender and GMax into Jet format.

John

I have observed further down that page the words 'limited time' - users who do want to try the software may want to get it quick, as it may not be free forever.

I am a bit confused here... there seems to be several versions so which one is best for creating objects for Trainz? As I don't make locos it means I am more inclined to create buildings and that isn't mentioned at all. One does mention 'environment' but that means ground, trees and other things we see around us.

Can anybody point a digital finger in the right direction please?

I don't mind trying other 3D packages, I tried Sktchup but thought better of it and have stuck with GMax.

Well in a nutshell, Daz Studio is a posing environment where you can create scenes, pose figures and render them. Bryce is a landscape generator with many options to create any land or sea based landscapes you can imagine. Hexagon would be the modelling package like blender, GMax and such and the one you would use for trainz creations.

Be aware that all these are directed to creating photorealistic render results, so inconvenient things like poly count aren't really a consideration here. Anyone who wants to download them, be aware that there's a registration number somewhere shown you need to save because you'll need it after installation.

Greetings from cloudy Amsterdam,

Thanks for the heads up John. Requires registration on daz3d if you don't already have an account. If you get all 3 packages there's about 15 files to dl. If you're just interested in Hexagon it's only 1 file. Looks like a great deal.

Hi all:

This truly is the "real deal." I downloaded the entire suite in late March and I used Bryce tree maker to create a tree which I imported into Blender, no problem. I'm on "the road" so I haven't been able to do more since then. As Shane mentioned this is a limited time, actually to the end of April!! When you sign up you have to agree to get their newsletter which comes along regularily. Most of it is uninteresting but they occasionally have something for a free download or highlight a video tutorial that you might find interesting.

The entire download is a around 2 Gigs, so start soon .......:)

Cheers,

Derek

Export a 3DS and Import to SketchUP and use Ruby TMIX to make a Trainz model.

I did that with a model in 3DCrafter. I lost my Trainz version and had to import the Railworks verison to 3dCrafter and convert to 3DS. Put it in SketchUp and made a new Trainz Version.

Do that now even with models I make in Blender. The Ruby TMIX is a great exporter to Trainz.
